What do Tighnari from Genshin Impact and Greg Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid have in common?

Greg Heffley was part of many people's childhoods, and he's oddly trending on Twitter today thanks to Zachary Gordon, who played the former in the original Diary of a Wimpy Kid film series that launched in the early 2010s. While starting out as an actor for a plethora of popular films, Zachary Gordon has since made his way to the voice acting sphere with an unlikely gig with Genshin Impact.

HoYoverse's popular open-world RPG made headlines in mid-February due to a massive scandal surrounding Elliot Gindi, who formerly voiced Forest Watcher Tighnari. He was involved in a series of affairs surrounding sexual misconduct against minors, prompting Genshin Impact to fire him within days of the allegations. They have since begun recasting Tighnari's voice and working toward replacing all existing voice lines in the game.

The Version 3.6 patch notes indicate that Tighnari's voice will finally be replaced in the update. While HoYoverse hasn't confirmed his new voice actor, dataminers were quick to find Zachary Gordon's name in the game files. Tighnari's new voice sample has also been circling around the web, matching Gordon's familiar voice. This means that Tighnari and Greg Heffley will essentially have the same voice.

Tighnari's new voice has received mixed responses. Some say that his voice sounds too young compared to the wise and ever-responsible Forest Watcher that many have come to love. But character voices are directed by the voice director in charge of Genshin Impact's English dub, so it's likely a higher-level decision that led to both Gordon's casting and Tighnari's younger appeal.

On the other hand, the news still hasn't settled in for some fans. It's hard to imagine the reliable Tighnari voiced by the same actor who played the wimpy Greg Heffley, but the memes that have come out of this revelation have been top-notch.
