How to beat Commander Komado in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

If you beat Beni, then Komado shouldn't be an issue.

Much like Beni, if you want to beat Commander Komado, you have to be aware of the Pokémon he owns and ensure that your own team isn’t at a disadvantage. Oddly enough though, the battle against Komado is much easier (but still not easy) compared to Beni's. This is because he uses Pokémon that are slow and have common type disadvantages.

Komado’s team is made out of an above level 60 Braviary, Snorlax, Clefable, and Golem. He won’t bring them out in that order, but he will bring out Braviary first. Here’s how to beat them all.

Braviary hits like a truck but it’s also very slow and defenseless. If you make sure that your first Pokémon is a fast one, like Rotom or Sneasler, Braviary will go down in one to two hits. Use Strong Style if needed.

The Hisiuan variant is weak to a lot: Ghost, Dark, Rock, Electric, and Ice. Don’t use Psychic, Grass, and Fighting moves. As a Flying type, it’s also immune to Ground.

This Snorlax is no Hisuian variant, so it’s beaten like every other Snorlax in other games: with a strong physical fighting move. Fighting is the only type it’s weak to and its Sp. Defense is very high. Decidueye, Lucario, and Infernape are good examples of Pokémon to use against it.

If you let Snorlax live too long, it will Giga Impact and High Horsepower your Pokémon into defeat.

Clefable may look big but its defenses aren’t that high. In fact, it’s the perfect example of a Pokémon that’s a “jack-of-all-stats”—most of them are equal in value. Clefable is immune to Dragon moves and strong against Fighting, Bug, and Dark.

As a pure Fairy type, however, the best strategy is to just hit it with Poison and Steel attacks. Sliggoo and Goodra are my personal favorites against it. Their Hisuian variants are even resistant to nine types of attacks and immune to one. If you don’t own one at this point, you can capture a Goomy in Holm of Trials at Crimson Mirelands or higher leveled ones at the Ancient Quarry at Coronet Highlands.

How to beat Golem

Golem has so many weaknesses and an abysmal Speed stat. You will always go first when you’re up against it (unless it’s switched in after you defeat a previous Pokémon—there’s a chance that it goes first because you just finished your turn).

Its Defense is high but its Sp. Defense is not. Hit it with a powerful special attack of a type it's weak to. Its double weak against Water and Grass, which are the recommended attack types to use, and just generally vulnerable to Fighting, Ground, Steel, and Ice.

The Plate of Prelude Beach request

If you’re battling Komado during the Prelude Beach mission, know that his Pokémon will have slightly higher levels. Here, he will bring out Golem first, rather than Braviary. Komado will also have a level 65 Heracross in addition to the four above.

Heracross is a little fast but weak. A Pokémon that’s weak to Fighting and Bug moves will lose in one his because of its high Attack stat. You can outspeed it with something like an Infernape, however. You can also try to tank the first hit with a Pokémon who’s resistant to Fighting and Bug moves, like Typhlosion.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is not a game where you can bulldoze through battles with an overleveled starter. You need to play it smart and fight with the right team. Commander Komado is very beatable, and you don’t need luck to do it.
