How to complete the Second Trial In Hogwarts Legacy - Complete Guide

Charles Rookwood's Trial begins when you meet Professor Fig in front of Rookwood Castle. This is a main quest so you can track the location from the Quests tab in the game. Rookwood Castle is located far south of Hogwarts in the Feldcroft Region. You visit this region with Sebastian Sallow to meet his sister Anne. Once you are near the castle, you'll notice a couple of Goblin camps with a few hostiles. Eliminate the Goblins outside the castle and make your way toward the western side of the castle. After finding Charles Rookwood's portrait, you'll have to start the Second Trial which has a few portal puzzles.

Entering Rookwood Castle can be tricky, but it can be done by casting the proper spells. The second bandit camp is located on the western side of the castle, and this is where you will also find a massive hole in the wall. Although the hole in this wall is high, you can climb up on an object to reach it. Use the Accio spell to grab hold of the object. You'll instantly cast Wingardium Leviosa, and use the spell to turn the object around. After that, simply cast Levioso to hold the object in mid-air and climb it. This way you can enter Rookwood Castle in Hogwarts Legacy.

The third ancient symbol is located on the wall at the right of the door. You'll notice this wall is broken and the symbol can be seen through it. Aim with your wand and strike it to unlock the door. The door opens on its own, and you can make your way down to The Rookwood Celler where you'll find Charles Rookwood's portrait.

All Chests in Rookwood Castle in Hogwarts Legacy

Rookwood Castle has a few chests you can find on the way to Charles Rookwood's Portrait. These chests are easier to find than the Second Trial chests, so we recommend using Revelio often while exploring the castle.

Hogwarts Legacy the Second Trial Walkthrough

The Second Trial features four different portal puzzles, and we have a step-by-step guide to help you through this. We found a few of the chests in the Second Trial which are listed below. Remember, at the end of this quest you'll have to fight a few Pensieve Guardians, so be prepared for action. Start by activating the Second Trial, and you'll enter the room shown in the image above.

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

You can see a staircase on the right-hand side of the entrance. Get up the stairs and investigate the ancient magic at the end of the floor to activate the first portal. Objects can be brought in and out of these portals, and you must remember that walking through them allows you to see things that are not there. You will also end up fighting enemies which can be seen from across a different portal in this quest, so it's best to know how this works beforehand.

Once the first portal appears, walk down the stairs, and interact with the pillar that can be seen through the portal. We recommend walking inside the portal and using Accio to move the pillar, and Wingardium Leviosa to position it. Make sure the pillar is kept on the left side of the ledge, allowing you to climb up on that side. Check the image above to see how to position the pillar, and where to get up from.

Remember, you can use Accio on the box to bring it to your side of the portal if you are standing outside the archway. Climb up on the pillar as shown in the image above, and then climb up to the ledge on the left-hand side of the room. Move ahead to the second portal from here.

The second portal is tricky as you need to take out a pillar from the portal and place it at another spot to reach a chest. We found three chests in the room, and the method to get each one of them is highlighted below. A key part of getting one of the chests requires you to take the pillar and place it on the right-hand side ledge opposite the ancient symbol on the wall.

Strike the ancient symbol on the wall to activate the portal. Striking the symbol rotates the archway allowing you to travel in and out of it easily. Once that's done, enter the portal and use Wingardium Leviosa on the pillar.

Carry the pillar by using Wingardium Leviosa, and bring it to the right-side ledge as shown in the image above. The pathway is now cleared for you to move to the third portal, but it's best to collect the chests first from this room.

The first chest from this area is located in a room on the left-hand side of the moving pathway. While entering the main room, turn left and stand across from the ancient magic symbol on the wall. Strike the panel with any spell, and the pathway will move on its own and create a space to walk across and enter the room. Collect the first chest from there.

The second chest is located on top of a ledge towards the right side of the room. To reach this you'll need to enter the portal first, and then exit it with the pillar. Make sure to use Accio and Wingardium Leviosa to bring the pillar along with you while exiting the portal. Place it on the spot next to the right-hand side ledge. Now carry the box from the left-hand side room with Wingardium Leviosa, and place it next to the pillar. Climb the pillar to reach the ledge and collect the chest.

The third chest we found can be unlocked by simply entering the portal, and then turning back. This chest appears right outside the portal after you walk through it, and is the easiest one to find in this part of the quest.

How to get into Second Trial third portal in Hogwarts Legacy

The third portal you come across will have a broken bridge on either side, and you'll be able to see the ancient symbol through the archway. Start by casting through the archway portal and striking the symbol. This will rotate the archway towards the right-hand side. A chest will appear beneath the ancient symbol, walk up to it and collect it.

Return to your initial position, turn right, and enter through newly created path by the portal. You will see a statue at the end of the path, and a box that contains a chest. Use Wingaridum Leviosa on the chest and move it to the center of the platform through the archway portal.

Once that's done, you need to strike the ancient symbol on the wall again to rotate the archway. Once it rotates, walk through and you'll get to interact with the chest.

Collect the loot from this chest, and walk straight through the stairs to reach the final portal of the Second Trial in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to get into Second Trial fourth portal in Hogwarts Legacy

The fourth portal you come across will have a couple of Pensieve Guardians protecting it and you must defeat them first. If you cannot see an enemy but can spot their weapon, walk inside the portal to reveal them. Once the fighting is done, strike the ancient symbol panel shown by the arrow in the image below. This will rotate the archway portal, transforming the pillar into a box. Turning the pillar into a box will allow you to carry it to other side through the portal.

Check the image above to see how the pillar should transform into the box before you can carry it through the portal. Cast Accio and Wingaridum Leviosa on the box to bring it to the other side of the portal. You'll also notice that the portal archway gets a ledge after it rotates, and you can easily climb on this ledge.

Once you bring it to the other side, use Wingardium Leviosa to place it back where it was on top of the staircase as pointed by the arrow in the first image. Now simply walk inside the portal to transform the box back into the pillar. After that's done, walk up the stairs and climb on the pillar, but make sure the archway portal has the ledge on top of it. While on top of the pillar, jump to the ledge and climb on top of it.

On top of the ledge over the archway portal, you'll find another chest on the left-hand side. Collect it and move toward the right-hand side and strike the ancient symbol panel shown by the arrow in the image above to rotate the archway. You will be able to walk through another entrance and on to the final part of the quest.

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

After walking through the entrance, you'll see two paths, one straight and the other on the left-hand side. Enter through the door on the left-hand side, and walk straight to collect the chest shown in the image above. Return to the initial area, and take the straight path to reach the final area of Charles Rookwood's Trial.

How to defeat the Pensieve Guardian in Second Trial in Hogwarts Legacy

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

The final part of the quest requires you to defeat an army of Pensieve Sentry and Protector. There is another portal at this location, and most enemies will be invisible at first. To make the enemies visible, simply walk inside the portal. After defeating the weaker enemies, a Pensieve Guardian will appear for the final boss fight in this quest. The Pensive Guardian has a stomp move that deals damage in close vicinity, and performs a melee attack with its weapon while charging forward. Pensieve Guardians can only be defeated through the same magic that powers them. So you have to use your ancient magic wisely against this boss to succeed.

Use all of the spells you can to charge up your ancient magic meter. Cast Protego to protect yourself from the Guardian's attack, and use the rolling feature to evade its stomps. The Pensieve Guardian will create a powerful orb of ancient magic, and you can take advantage of it by destroying it quickly. When the orb starts to form, strike it with magic similar to the orb's color. For instance, if the orb is red, strike it with Confringo, Bombarda, or Incendio, if it is purple, strike it with Depulse, Flipendo, Accio, or Descendo. Hit the Guardian with ancient magic to deal more damage. After defeating the Pensieve Guardian, you'll enter another room with Charles Rookwood's memories. Watch through the cutscenes, visit the Map Room, and interact with the keepers to complete this quest in Hogwarts Legacy.
