Hogwarts Legacy is a dream come true for Harry Potter fans, allowing them to become students and explore the iconic Hogwarts. However, you must first determine if you want to play a witch or a wizard in Hogwarts Legacy.
What are the differences between Witches and Wizards in Hogwarts Legacy?
Mechanically and story-wise, there are no differences between playing as a witch or wizard. The only main difference is the rooms you can access, namely the dormitory and bathrooms. Like in the books, wizards cannot enter the witch dormitory, but witches can enter the wizard dormitory. If you want to be able to enter both dorms, you must play as a witch. The house chest is not affected by this decision.
Another slight difference is clothing, as some outfits and gear are better-suited appearance-wise for a witch or wizard. Nothing stops you from playing as either and using whatever piece of clothing you wish. It should be noted your character is never addressed differently if you are a witch or wizard, typically referred to as Fifth Year or another gender-neutral option.

Another difference is witches can also enter both bathrooms, but wizards cannot. So besides a few unrestricted accesses, there is no real difference between playing a witch or a wizard. Choose whichever one you want and begin your magical adventure.
Also, like the books, should you try to enter the witch dormitory as a wizard, the stairs will turn into a slide and send you to the bottom. Realistically, you could use magic to bypass this, but Hogwarts Legacy does not allow you to do this in-game.
