There are tons of side quests to complete around Hogwarts and its surrounding areas. A lot of them are important to complete, even though they can be unrelated to the main story, but they can help you earn unique loot, complete special puzzles, and even learn new spells. The Man Behind The Moons quests is especially essential for your adventure, allowing you to learn the unlocking spell: Alohomora. Here's how you can complete this tricky quest and never worry about a lock again.
How to complete The Man Behind The Moons Quest in Hogwarts Legacy
The quest will begin with the school's caretaker, Mr. Moon, reaching out by letter to ask you to meet up with him. You'll meet him outside of The Great Hall near the Grand Staircase. This is where he'll reveal to you a Demiguise statue that is holding onto a Moon. He'll show you how to collect the Moon by waiting until night, which you can also do by opening your map and pressing in the right stick of your controller.
After this explanation, Mr. Moon will ask you to head into the Faculty Tower to retrieve two more statues. However, this area is currently off-limits to students, and you'll need to unlock a gate to get inside. Mr. Moon will teach you Alohomora level one here. You can use it to break into the gate and then sneak your way to the prefect's bathroom and Hospital Wing to retrieve the Moons he wants.
After this, Mr. Moon will ask you to continue to find Demiguise Statues hidden around Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and even outer regions on the World Map. He promises he will teach you higher levels of Alohomora as you do. The first step of this quest is to collect nine Demiguise Moons, which will allow you to learn Alohomora Ievel two.
How to collect nine Demiguise Moons in Hogwarts Legacy
There are thirty Demiguise Moons total, spread around all areas: Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the World Map. However, some Demiguise Moons are locked inside level two areas that you won't be able to reach this time through. We've put together a quick list of Moons you can collect for this portion of the quest. Remember, you'll need to wait till night to collect the Moon, even after you find the statue.
1. Hogwarts: Faculty Tower Demiguise Moon Location
You can find this Demiguise statue by taking the Faculty Tower Floo and heading straight down the hall, and descending the spiral staircase. Continue past the corridor with the musical paintings and then down the staircase to your right. Follow the hallway around the corner to the left and walk all the way to the end of the hall till you reach a dead end. To your left will be a locked door leading to a bathroom. Use your Alohomora level one to unlock it, and then head inside. You'll notice the middle stall has an "Out of Order" sign on it. Push into it, and you'll locate a boiler room of sorts with the Demiguise statue on the crate.
2. Hogwarts: Library Restricted Section Demiguise Moon Location
To retrieve this Demiguise Moon, you'll need to make your way through the Restricted Section of the Library to the lower levels. Take the Library Floo Flame, and then head toward the left corner where the gated area is. Enter through the gate, and begin descending the staircases all the way to the bottom level. You'll notice the Demiguise Moon on a dresser to your left just before the door to the lower dungeons.
3. Hogwarts: Divination Classroom Demiguise Moon Location
All you have to do for this Demiguise Moon is head to the Divination Classroom Floo, and ascend the stairs and ladder leading into the classroom. The Demiguise is resting right on the Professor's desk in the right corner of the room.
4. Hogwarts: Professor Fig's Classroom Demiguise Moon Location
Another simple Demiguise to locate is in Professor Fig's Office. Take the Floo Flame to Professor Fig's Classroom, walk through the room, and up the stairs leading to the office. Just to the left of the fireplace, the Demiguise is sitting on a small side table.
5. Hogwarts: The Great Hall Demiguise Moon Location
Take the Floo to The Great Hall, and then make your way into the main dining hall. On the right side of the room, head toward the locked door just past the large Gardens doors. Put your level one Alohomora to the test by unlocking the door and heading inside the small sitting room. The Demiguise Moon is sitting on the small table in front of the fireplace.
6. Hogwarts: North Exit Demiguise Moon Location
To get to this Moon, take the Hogwarts North Exit Floo, and turn around completely to face the castle once more. In the courtyard area, you'll see a tower to your left. Just under the tower is a locked door. Head over and use Alohomora level one to open it. Just inside is the Demiguise statue.
7. Hogwarts: Muggle Studies Classroom Demiguise Moon Location
This classroom location is not as well-known as the rest, and that's because it is tucked away in the dungeons of the castle. It also happens to be home to another Demiguise statue. To get there, take the Bell Tower Courtyard Floo, and head up the stairs to your left. Continue through the wooden door and then keep to your left as you descend all the stairs and doors until you reach the dungeons. Continue forward and around the corner until you spot the dragon skeleton. From there, turn right and continue down the long corridor, and you'll see a locked door to your left as you do. Use Alohomora level one to unlock the door and head into the classroom. As soon as you enter, take a right and head into the corner to find the Demiguise.
There are still a few more Hogwarts Demiguise Moons, but they will require a higher Alohomora skill. So, for now, you'll want to head into Hogsmeade to get your last two Demiguise for this portion of the quest. The quickest ones you can grab right now are located in and right near The Three Broomsticks:
8. Hogsmeade: The Three Broomsticks Demiguise Moon Location
Take the South Hogsmeade Floo, and Three Broomsticks should be the building right in front of you. Head inside and ascend the staircases all the way up until you come to a locked door. Use Alohomora level one to unlock it, and enter the private room to find the Demiguise on the table in front of the fireplace.
9. Hogsmeade: House East of Three Broomsticks Demiguise Moon Location
Exit out of The Three Broomsticks and take a left. Follow the path around the side of The Three Broomsticks, and it will be the house just below the wooden staircase. Use Alohomora level one to unlock it, and then head inside and up the stairs. The Demiguise will be on a table on the other side of the staircase.
Now that you have nine Demiguise Moons, head back to Mr. Moon right inside the Faculty Tower. He will teach you Alohomora level two once you give him the Moons. Then he'll send you off to collect thirteen more Moons in order to learn the final upgrade.
How to collect thirteen Demiguise Moons in Hogwarts Legacy
Now that you have Alohomora level two, you can get the rest of the Moons around Hogwarts castle and then head back to Hogsmeade to collect more there.
1. Hogwarts: Potions Classroom Demiguise Moon Location
Take the Potions Classroom Floo Flame, enter through the door but walk past the classroom entrance and follow the spiral staircase down to the lower levels. At the very end of the hallway here, you'll see a House Cabinet. Just to the left of it is a level one locked door. Unlock it and head inside a long gallery room. As you walk down the corridor, you'll notice another locked door to your left. This door will be a level two Alohomora, which you now can unlock. The Demiguise is just inside on a crate.
2. Hogwarts: Howin's Classroom Demiguise Moon Location
Take the Beasts Classroom Floo Flame, and you'll notice Professor Howin's Office hut just to your right. Both doors to her office require a level two Alohomora. You can unlock either one and enter. On a dining table inside, you'll find the Demiguise Moon.
3. Hogwarts: Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower Demiguise Moon Location
This Demiguise is located in the Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower, but the fastest way to get to it is to take the Floo to the Transfiguration Courtyard. As soon as you get there, immediately turn around and enter through the doors to the DADA Tower. Just off to your right is a locked door at the top of a few steps. Use Alohomora level two to unlock it and head inside to find the Demiguise Moon on the shelf directly in front of you.
Now that you have the rest of the Hogwarts castle Moons, you can head back into Hogsmeade to collect some more toward your quest:
4. Hogsmeade: Gladrags Wizard Wear Demiguise Moon Location
Take the North Hogsmeade Floo, and then take a right and follow the path to Gladrags Wizardwear. It will be the top hat icon on your Hogsmeade map. Right inside, on the lower counter, is the Demiguise.
5. Hogsmeade: House East of Brood and Peck Demiguise Moon Location
From the North Hogsmeade Floo, take a left up the steps and continue forward to Brood and Peck, the unicorn horn icon on your map. Directly across from it, to your right, is a locked house. Use Alohomora to enter, and you'll find the Demiguise on the mantle above the fireplace.
6. Hogsmeade: House East of Honeydukes Demiguise Moon Location
From the North Hogsmeade Floo, Honeydukes will be just off to the right of you. Instead, take a left and follow the path up and around the corner to the right until you're behind Honeydukes. There will be a small house there with a level one lock. Use Alohomora to enter, and you'll see the Demiguise just inside, under a painting.
7. Hogsmeade: House North of J. Pippin's Potions Demiguise Moon Location
Take West Hogsmeade Floo, take a left up the steps, and walk past J. Pippin's on your left. It will be the first house past it with a level two lock. Use Alohomora to open it and walk in and up the stairs to locate the Demiguise.
8. Hogsmeade: Hog's Head Demiguise Moon Location
From the West Hogsmeade Floo, take a rest and descend the longer set of stairs. Directly at the bottom of the stairs, take another right and follow the path to the end to reach Hog's Head. Walk around the right side of the bar into the back room, and you'll find the Demiguise on the crates there.
9. Hogsmeade: House Northwest of Tomes and Scrolls Demiguise Moon Location
From the West Hogsmeade Floo Flame, take a right until you get to the long stairwell. Descend the stairs and continue following the pathway straight, and you'll see two locked houses side by side on your right. The second house with the rounded door is the one with the Demiguise. Use Alohomora level two to open it and then head up the stairs to the second level. You'll spot the Demiguise on the dresser.
10. Hogsmeade: Tomes and Scrolls Demiguise Moon Location
Take South Hogsmeade Floo Flame, then take a left and follow the path curving around further to the left. Continue forward till you see the green Tomes and Scrolls shop on your right. It is also the paper icon on your Hogsmeade map. Head around the back of the counter and to the left into the backroom. You'll find the Demiguise on the dresser to the right of the eye-chest.
Now that you found all the Hogsmeade Demiguise Moons, you'll want to wander farther into the World Map to collect the rest that you need. There are quite a few World Map locations you can find, but these are the quickest and easiest choice to help you finish this quest:
11. World Map: Upper Hogsfield Demiguise Moon Location
Take the Floo to Upper Hogsfield, and then continue straight forward and look to your left for a locked house with a wheel leaning against the front. Use Alohomora to unlock it and head inside to find the Demiguise on a stool.
12. World Map: Lower Hogsfield Demiguise Moon Location
Take Lower Hogsfield Floo Flame, then turn around the face the house behind the stone wall. It will be directly inside this house. You won't need to unlock anything, head inside, and you'll find it on the floor beside a dining table.
13. World Map: Pitt-Upon-Ford Demiguise Moon Location
From Pitt-Upon-Ford Floo, head down the path to your left until you locate a house with a carriage in front on your right side. Head into the house and up the stairs. You'll see the Demiguise to your left beside a lamp and mirror.

Once you have all thirteen of these Demiguise Moons, head back to the same location in the Faculty Tower to find Mr. Moon waiting. Once you give him these Moons, he'll teach you the last upgrade for Alohomora, which means you can now get into any lock you find around Hogwarts and its grounds. He'll ask you to keep a lookout for any more in the hopes that you might figure out who is behind it. You can continue finding them around the World Map if you'd like to, but it isn't necessary unless you are going for the achievement.
How to figure out who is behind the Moons in Hogwarts Legacy
After getting the last upgrade of Alohomora, you won't need to find any more Demiguise, but you still are in the dark about who is behind it. After a little while, you will receive a letter from the culprit named Piers Pemberton. He accidentally addresses himself without meaning to, allowing you to track him down in Hogsmeade. Follow your marker to Hogsmeade and confront him to learn he attended Hogwarts alongside Mr. Moon and was bullied by him, thus leading to him getting revenge with the Demiguise statues.
You can return to Mr. Moon with this information, which he will be surprisingly glad to hear. He will thank you for your help and head off to reunite with his old "friend."
