How to build your own vehicles in Lego 2K Drive

On your mark, get set, BUILD!

Even as an adult, I can still shamelessly say I love building Lego creations. This was why I was psyched to learn Lego 2K Drive would not only feature Crossplay Multiplayer and awesome races but a vehicle creation feature that allows you to piece together your own creations and actually drive them. Time to see if those years of building Legos have paid off as you head to your Garage and get to work on your unique designs. Here's how!

The first step to making your own vehicle is to navigate to your Garage. To do this, either head to the Garage straight from your Main Menu, or drive to the nearest Garage in your Story Mode or Shared World.

Once in the Garage, select the Body Shop tab shown in the left corner of the screen; this is the toggle view button on your controller. The Body Shop is where you'll have everything you need to start designing. You can choose from the following: Build, Paint, Group, and Customize.

  • Build: This is where you can place bricks and pieces and start forming a shape for your vehicle.
  • Paint: Recolor any of the pieces on your vehicle with matte, chrome, metallic, and other unique colors and finishes.
  • Group: Allows you to lock and band several pieces together so you can move them together (extremely helpful when you have a lot of little detail pieces).
  • Customize: Place stickers and added flairs — even animations — onto your vehicles to really make them stand out from the competition.

You will have hundreds of bricks and pieces to choose from and loads of customization options — ranging from paint jobs to stickers. You can even switch out the wheels, custom place the driver seat, and make your horn and engine sound how you like. Additional customizations can be earned by playing through the Story, competing in races, and working your way through the Drive Pass.

Note the more bricks you have on your vehicle, the more it will be weighed down, which will affect you during races or as you drive around the world; keep track of the weight on the right side of the screen, as shown by the weight icon.

The most important part of creating your vehicle is ensuring it has powerful stats for your races. Each vehicle sports the Top Speed, Acceleration, Handling, Health, Melee Power, and Weight stats. You can hand-pick what stat values your vehicle will have, but you will need to unlock them as you play or purchase them with some Brick Bucks. You can switch up the stats by selecting your vehicle from your Showroom and pressing the Stats option, or in the Body Shop under the Customize menu. The stats are sorted by rarity, and the higher-ranked stats have better boosts to help you succeed.

Once you're done creating your vehicle, be sure to save it by pressing the start button on your controller and pressing the Save button; all the vehicles you save will be kept in a collection Showroom in your Garage. You can choose to ride these vehicles as you like around Bricklandia and even use them to compete in your races; to select the vehicle to ride or even modify them again later, select them from the Showroom and press Equip or Edit. You'll want to put your best into your work so it will perform well and show off your artistic talent.
