How to Turn On Cheats in a Minecraft World
To enable cheats in Minecraft, you must set the option when you first start a new world. To change the weather and other things, launch Minecraft and follow the steps below.
Enable Cheats in a New World
- Click the Play button and Create New.
- Select the "Create New World" option.
- On the left side of the screen, you should see General, Advanced, Multiplayer, etc. Click on the Cheats section.
- Enable the Cheats option on the right-hand side of the screen. You'll know it's enabled if you have a pop-up on the upper bar that says, "You can't earn Achievements." Check the photo below for your reference.
- Click Create World, and you're good to go.

Enable Cheats in an Existing World
If you have already created a world in Minecraft and forgot to turn this option on, you can still enable cheats if it is your world and does not belong to other players. To enable cheats in your own existing world in Minecraft, follow the steps below.
Minecraft Bedrock Edition Cheat Mode
- Press Escape on your keyboard or the Start/Options button for controller users.
- Hover over the World section, and choose Game.
- Scroll all the way down until you see the Cheats section.
- Tick the "Activate Cheats" button. You'll know it's on if the slider is on the right side, like the photo below.
Minecraft Java Edition Cheats Mode
In Minecraft: Java Edition, cheats will remain active for your current play session. If you exit and reload the world, you will need to repeat these steps to re-enable cheats.
- Open your existing world in Minecraft.
- Press the "ESC" key to open the game menu.
- Click on "Open to LAN."
- In the "Open to LAN" settings, you will see an option for "Allow Cheats." Click on the dropdown menu and select "ON."
- Click "Start LAN World."

In multiplayer, the owner or an admin of a server has the right to enable or disable cheats, depending on their preferences. You’ll have to contact the admin directly to check whether cheats are enabled or if you want cheats activated.
