Overwatch broke Twitch record with 1.5 million concurrent viewers during OW2 Beta Bash

That's a lot of fans!

Overwatch 2's first PvP Beta has finally arrived, and to celebrate the special occasion, Blizzard partnered with some of Twitch's biggest content creators to hold an Overwatch 2 Beta Bash. IT was during this celebration that Overwatch beat its own viewer record on Twitch when it hit 1.5 million concurrent viewers.

Streamers including xQc, Asmongold, and Pokimane all came together to celebrate the launch of the Overwatch 2 Beta and try the game out first hand. They helped to gather the 1.5 million concurrent viewers, as well as keep Overwatch the most viewed game on Twitch all day long. The announcement came via a tweet from the Overwatch Twitter account as the Beta Bash was coming to a close.

There is no question as to what drove such high viewer numbers. Blizzard employed the Twitch Drop Program as a way to award fans access to the PvP Beta. All fans needed to do was watch four hours of Overwatch 2 Beta gameplay from one of the partnered streamers, and they would receive a guaranteed invite to play the game for themselves.

It could be easy to assume that fans only watched to get access to the Beta, but even that shows just how excited players are to get their hands on Overwatch 2. With it breaking Overwatch's own viewer record, it's clear that the hype is still very much alive for more Overwatch.

I've been playing video games for the past 15 years and every time I turn one on, it feels like the very first time. Since I liked games so much, I decided that I would write about them.
