Sony unveils official PlayStation 5 covers and new colored DualSense controllers

Now players can have the black PS5s that they've always wanted.

A while back, Sony forced several stores to stop selling unofficially licensed PlayStation 5 "plates" that players can use to cover their consoles. The plates would come in various colors, with most leaning towards the black plate because it made the PS5 look closer to the previous PlayStations.

Now it turns out Sony had a very good reason for stopping the sales of unofficial PS5 covers—the company will be selling its own official PS5 covers. Announced today, Sony will be selling be five different color covers that players can get—Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. The covers are available for pre-order on the PlayStation Direct website for $54.99, and they will be available to ship out on Jan. 21, 2022, but only via PS Direct. Everywhere else will have the covers available on Feb. 18, 2022.

These new controllers will cost $74.99, and they will release on Jan. 14, 2022, on the PS Direct Store, and on Feb. 11, 2022, everywhere else.
