In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, evolving Pokémon works a bit differently than in past games. Traditionally, Pokémon will evolve on their own once certain conditions are met (level requirement, holding a specific item while leveling up, ETC.). In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokmon will not evolve until players tell them to. This can be done in-game via the menu.
Some Pokémon previously had the requirement that they are traded with another player to evolve. This is no longer needed in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. A new item called a Linking Cable in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will allow Pokémon that previously needed to be traded to evolve, evolve simply by using the item. Trading is still an option, but using the Linking Cable is a far simpler one for some players and the only option for others.
- Machoke: When holding the Linking Cable, players can have Machoke evolve into Machamp.
- Graveler: When holding the Linking Cable, players can have Graveler evolve into Golem.
- Haunter: When holding the Linking Cable, players can have Haunter evolve into Gengar.
- Kadabra: When holding the Linking Cable, players can have Kadabra evolve into Alakazam.

Once players evolve these Pokémon, the Linking Cable will be used up. This means that players only have one evolution per Linking Cable, so they should choose wisely which Pokémon they want to evolve.
