All controls in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Can't catch em' all with out the right button presses.

The control scheme for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet can be easy to forget at times, especially for people who took a long break before The Indigo Disk dropped. The game also offers several options, though, to make typical actions easier.

What are the controls for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Now that Pokémon has more of an open-world feel, it's very important to remember how to control the character in the overworld. Here are the basic controls for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet:

  • Left Joystick: control character and move around/scroll through options in battle
  • Select: pull up Pokedex
  • Start: call for Koraidon/Miraidon
  • Home: go back to the Home screen
  • A: select/interact/talk to NPC
  • B: cancel/jump with Koraidon/Miraidon
  • X: pull up Menu
  • Y: Pull up Map
  • Right Joystick: control camera
  • R: Let's Go command (sends Pokémon out of Pokeball to fight enemies in the overworld)
  • ZR: call back a Pokémon that Let's Go has been used on
  • L: refocus camera
  • ZL: switch camera view

Fortunately, most of the same controls that work for the main character also work for Koraidon and Miraidon. The big difference is that the B button is used to jump with Koraidon and Miraidon. In order to fly with these Pokémon, you need to double-tap the B button.

There have also been some quality-of-life improvements on the battle screen. Most notably, you can now press the X button to use a Poke Ball immediately. When pressing the X button, you can also scroll through different Poke Ball options if you want to use an Ultra Ball, Great Ball, or other version.
