Niantic has announced that two of the most anticipated Pokémon in the franchise will be making their Pokémon GO debuts. Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon will be featured in new Primal Raids. Their debut will coincide with the Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn - Las Vegas, but players globally will be able to complete the Primal Surge Field Research after their first appearance to get the chance to encounter these powerful Pokémon.
Bonuses from Primal Pokémon in Pokémon GO
Primal Kyogre Bonuses
To get the bonuses for Primal Kyogre, players will need to have the Pokémon in its Primal Form. Its normal form will not give these bonuses.
- Having Primal Kyogre in your party will give a boost to Electric, Water, and Bug-type moves in battle.
- If Primal Kyogre is your Buddy Pokémon, additional XP and Candy will be gained from catching Electric, Water, and Bug-type Pokémon.
Primal Groudon Bonuses
To get the bonuses for Primal Groudon, players will need to have the Pokémon in its Primal Form. Its normal form will not give these bonuses.
- Having Primal Groudon in your party will give a boost to Grass, Fire, and Ground-type moves in battle.
- If Primal Groudon is your Buddy Pokémon, additional XP and Candy will be gained from catching Grass, Fire, and Ground-type Pokémon.

Primal Groudon & Kyogre's Featured Attacks
Both of these Pokémon will have a featured attack when caught after a successful Primal Raid. Both of these moves are powerful in their own right, so it's worth going out of your way to grab these Pokémon while they have access to them.

- Primal Groudon - Precipice Blade
Can Primal Kyogre & Groudon be shiny in Pokémon GO?
Primal Kyogre and Groudon can be shiny when encountered, and if players already have shiny versions of these Pokémon, they can revert them into their Primal forms to obtain the shiny Primal variants. The chances of encountering a shiny version do not appear to be boosted at the time of writing, but these Pokémon could be featured in future events where chances are increased.
