Every character in Triangle Strategy is built differently. Each of them have unique skills, terrain advantages, and a variety of uses depending on the situation. Some units work better with others. Others are great for farming coin or items but shouldn’t be taken to main stage battles.
In this guide, we’ll teach you how to use Lionel, a good-willing merchant from the Consortium.
Lionel character guide
Lionel is not really a character you want to take with you during main chapter battles. He’s best used for money farming and in clearing Mental Mock Battles with a small map (he's slow and can only walk so far).
His money farming utility is obvious: he a large amount of coin every time he picks up spoils. But all of his other uses are not as apparent.
Lionel is actually really good for distracting far away enemies with Ruffle Feathers (provoke) and Inciting Whispers (tempt). Ruffle Feathers will almost always land. Inciting Whispers, on the other hand, is a big hit-or-miss. But when it does hit, you get a temporary ally for two turns. Enemies will even attack the unit you have successfully tempted.

For accessories, it’s best to give Lionel those that increase Speed. Again, he's very slow and only has a four-tile movement, but extra speed will offset at least one of his weaknesses.
Class promotions and weapon upgrades
Prioritize HP upgrades for Lionel. At Weapon Rank one, Lionel has a passive skill upgrade that lets him deal more damage towards status inflicted enemies. If your strategy involves Ruffle Feathers, you can unlock it but it is not necessary.
At Weapon Rank two, unlock the upgrade that increases the success rate of Ruffle Feathers.
Lionel does not need the Luck upgrade immediately. It will not increase his chances of landing status effects. Luck only affects how often he can crit, and Lionel is not best used to deal damage.
Moreover, he doesn't need to be promoted to Elite immediately. At his highest class, he gets an amazing skill called Endless Speech. It inflicts sleep, silence, and other status effects on a group of enemies and almost always lands. But it isn't a priority, as you won't be using Lionel a lot. You might need it during the last chapters though!
