Project Zomboid can necessitate skill-building in order to survive, and Metalworking is no different. As long as you're ready to dismantle a lot of metal objects and do some light magazine reading, you'll be an expert in no time!
How to increase Metalworking skill fast in Project Zomboid
The fastest way to level up Metalworking in Project Zomboid is to dismantle certain metal objects, such as bathtubs and sinks. Dismantling these objects will gradually add XP to leveling up your metalworking skill. Taking apart certain objects, such as dumpsters and fridges, will give more XP towards metalworking than others. Other items that can be dismantled include:
- Playground Slide
- Metal Shelves, Doors, and Chairs
- Metal Lockers & Cabinets
- Ovens, Fridges, Microwaves, and Freezers
- Washers & Dryers
- BBQs
- Some trashcans
- Toilets & Showers
- Vending Machines
Do Skill Books help with Metalworking in Project Zomboid?
You can also gain even more Metalworking XP if you read a Metalworking Skill Book before going on your dismantle run. Skill books give an XP multiplier that varies depending on the level of the Skill Book. So, if you want good early Metalworking XP, you will need to read The Metalwork Magazine Vol. 1. You won't get more XP directly from these magazines, but they will multiply the amount you get from dismantling.
Supplies for dismantling for Metalworking in Project Zomboid
The right tools are needed before you can dismantle metal objects. Luckily, it's easy to find out what tools you need. In short:
- Right-click an object and then find the dismantle tab
- Under the dismantle tab, see the object's name you right-clicked in another tab.
- Hold your cursor over the object's name, and it will display a list of information, including what tools you need before you can dismantle the object.
This information tab will also display what skill the object falls under, along with tools. Because of this, we recommend using this information tab whenever you are unsure what an object's dismantle skill is. More than anything, for Metalworking, you'll need a propane torch and welding mask.
Watch the amount of propane left in your propane torch, as it will need to be refilled and can deplete quickly. Keep an eye out for propane sitting around early in the game, and stock up for your Metalworking projects.
