You may be wondering if you need to play Remnant 1 before taking on Remnant 2, the direct sequel. If so, here's everything you need to know about how Remnant 1 connects to Remnant 2, and whether or not you should play it first.
Should you play Remnant 1 before Remnant 2?
While Remnant 1 is directly connected to the events of Remnant 2, you do not need to play it in order to enjoy Remnant 2. From a story perspective, Remnant 1 starts the events that eventually lead into Remnant 2, but they are distantly connected and summarized again during Remnant 2. Some characters also make a brief return in Remnant 2, but their significance is very minor.

The most substance connection between Remnant 1 and Remnant 2 is a character called the Ravager. His contribution to the story is major, but not in a way that would prevent you from enjoying Remnant 2 if you play that game first. Without jumping into spoiler territory, just know that the Ravager makes a direct appearance in both games.
From a gameplay perspective, Remnant 2 is vastly superior to its predecessor in practically every way, from the shooting mechanics to the RPG elements. The difference is so big that I don't recommend playing Remnant 1 at all if you can get your hands on the sequel instead. While Remnant 1 was a fantastic game, Remnant 2 puts it to shame, as any sequel should.
