Best Traits in Clover RPG – What to Unlock for Your Build

Your magic gets the flashy animations. Your traits do the less glamorous work of keeping you alive long enough to use them.

The best traits in Clover RPG depend on your stat spread and the kind of fights you want to win. Mob Slayer is an easy pick for PvE, Arcane Rebound rewards good defense with Mana recovery, and Graceful Escape improves your dodge window. More specialized options can turn Misdirect into a much bigger part of your offense or help you recover from repeated knockdowns. Here are the picks I would prioritize and the combinations worth considering.

How Traits Work in Clover RPG

Traits are unlockable bonuses and mechanics, not random rolls. You meet their requirements and spend the necessary points to obtain them. In general, they fall into three categories:

  • One Stat: Primarily requires investment in one attribute.
  • Multiple Stats: Requires investment in two attributes.
  • No Stat: Uses other requirements, such as levels, quests, kills, Marks, or previously unlocked traits.

A stat requirement doesn't necessarily cover the full requirement. Some traits also need a particular level, a completed quest, Marks, or another trait unlocked first. My recommendations below use the current early-release trait descriptions. However, some interactions, cooldowns, and requirements are still unclear, so I'll keep updating this article as I learn more.

Best Traits to Unlock in Clover RPG

Mob Slayer: Best Straightforward PvE Pick

Requirements: 150 NPC kills and 3 points.

Mob Slayer grants 10% more damage to mobs. There is no low-health requirement, same-magic matchup, or opening-hit condition attached to that bonus. For a character focused on quests and grinding, this is one of the easiest purchases to justify. More importantly, it does not ask you to divert stats into an attribute your build otherwise ignores.

The remaining question is whether every boss counts as a mob for this effect. Until that is verified, treat Mob Slayer as a strong regular-enemy damage pick rather than a confirmed bonus against every PvE target. I assume that counts for bosses too, making it even more OP.

Arcane Rebound: Best Mana-Sustain Choice

Requirements: Level 20, Intelligence 10, 4 points, and 50 Marks.

Arcane Rebound restores 5% of your Mana when you parry or dodge an attack. This is a particularly appealing caster trait because successful defense fuels your offense. It also rewards something you want to do anyway, rather than asking you to take damage or deliberately sit at low health.

Furthermore, the description does not specify a trigger cooldown, so it activates with every parry or dodge. This trait is mechanically demanding and rewards high-skill players. If you are not confident in your ability to consistently dodge or parry, avoid unlocking this trait.

For Wind, there is a promising connection with Aerial Efficiency, which reduces airborne Wind spell costs by 30%. One trait helps recover Mana, while the magic passive helps you spend less of it. If you ask me, that is a perfect combo.

Graceful Escape: Best General Dodge Upgrade

Requirements: Agility 25 and 3 points.

Graceful Escape increases your dodge frames by 10%. It is a clean defensive upgrade for a build already investing in Agility. A more forgiving dodge window helps against both players and enemies without forcing you to lose most of your health first.

It also pairs naturally with Arcane Rebound: one improves the dodge window, while the other rewards successful dodges with Mana. That does not establish how much easier any particular attack becomes to avoid, but the two effects support the same playstyle. It's a naturally useful trait if you have trouble timing your dodges properly.

Weapons Expert: Best Early Weapon-Progression Pick

Requirements: Level 5 and 1 point.

Weapons Expert increases weapon proficiency gain by 50%. For one point and an early level requirement, this is a no-brainer pickup if weapon progression is part of your plan. Buying it earlier gives you more opportunities to benefit while training. So if that's the route you wanna go, pick this up as soon as it becomes available.

Just keep its role straight: faster proficiency gain is not a direct 50% damage increase. Its value is getting you through weapon progression more efficiently, not immediately winning your next duel. Nevertheless, it's still an immensely useful trait to pick early, and it keeps bringing value the longer you play.

Rapid Recovery: Useful on Its Own, Important for Its Follow-Ups

Requirements: Vitality 10 and 3 points.

Rapid Recovery halves the time needed to recover after being knocked out. That is useful, but the description does not say it halves every stun, hit reaction, or ragdoll, so keep that in mind - it's not a universal solution for every CC thrown at you.

Its bigger build-planning role is that it is also required for Iron Rebound, which leads into Unyielding Bastion. If you want that defensive chain, Rapid Recovery is part of the total investment. Do not compare the final trait’s two-point price with a standalone trait and forget everything needed to reach it.

Best Defensive Traits

Iron Rebound and Unyielding Bastion

Iron Rebound requirements: Rapid Recovery, Vitality 30, Endurance 15, and 2 points. Iron Rebound reduces ragdoll duration by 15%.

Unyielding Bastion requirements: Iron Rebound and 2 points. After you are ragdolled, Unyielding Bastion grants temporary immunity to ragdoll effects, with a 40-second cooldown.

This is one of the most interesting defensive combinations against kits that repeatedly displace you. Recovering sooner helps with the first interruption, while temporary immunity could prevent the next ragdoll from immediately taking control away again.

However, ragdoll immunity is not damage immunity. You still need to dodge, block, or disengage. The timing also matters. We still need to establish exactly when Bastion activates and how long its protection lasts. Even with that uncertainty, this is a reasonable chain to invest in if repeated knockdowns are your biggest problem.

Mana Skin and Tempered Body

Mana Skin requirements: Ragnar Quest and 6 points. Mana Skin provides 5% damage reduction against magic-based attacks.

Tempered Body requirements: Aric Quest, Vitality 20, and 6 points. Tempered Body provides 5% damage reduction against physical-based attacks.

Both offer straightforward protection against their respective damage types. They are also relatively expensive in points, so choose around the attacks you actually struggle against. Do not assume that a close-range magic animation counts as physical damage, or that every glowing weapon strike counts as magic. Read the damage classification instead of relying on how it looks.

Likewise, combining Mana Skin with racial Magic Resistance may be useful, but the final reduction depends on how those systems stack. Adding the percentages together without testing would be premature.

Best Traits for Melee Builds

Liver Shot

Requirements: Strength 25 and 2 points.

Liver Shot increases Misdirect damage by 20%. If Misdirect is a regular part of your offense, this is one of the clearest damage upgrades available. Its value is much less convincing if you rarely use the attack. Strength already improves Misdirect damage and physical scaling, so the requirement supports the same general build direction.

Follow Through and Deceptive Momentum

Follow Through requirements: Strength 20, Agility 10, and 2 points. Landing a Misdirect grants a brief speed boost.

Deceptive Momentum requirements: Agility 15, Strength 15, and 3 points. Landing a Misdirect allows you to roll again.

These traits make a successful Misdirect do more than deal damage. Follow Through helps with repositioning, while Deceptive Momentum gives you another movement option after connecting. Together with Liver Shot, they give Misdirect a stronger role in an aggressive build: damage, movement, and a potential defensive exit all branch from landing the same attack.

Crippling Fakeout

Requirements: Strength 35 and 3 points.

Landing a Misdirect temporarily slows the target, with a 15-second cooldown. Crippling Fakeout is worth considering when keeping an opponent within reach is more valuable than another irrelevant damage increase. It also complements Follow Through conceptually: your successful hit slows them while giving you a speed boost.

The missing numbers are the slow’s strength and duration. Until those are known, this is a promising chase tool rather than a guaranteed way to maintain pressure. Hopefully, the devs will add these exact numbers to the trait's tooltip.

Critical Aerial

Requirements: Level 20, 6 points, and 50 Marks.

Critical Aerial makes your aerial M2 block-break. That is a meaningful addition for builds that regularly rely on aerial attacks. It gives that attack a guard-breaking role, which could be more valuable than a passive damage bonus against strong defenders. The price is substantial, though. Buy it because aerial M2 fits your combat plan, not because the word “critical” sounds good.

Best Traits for Magic Builds

Arcane Rebound is my first general recommendation for casters, but the other magic-oriented traits suit more specific situations.

Dirty Casting

Requirement: Magic Power 30 and 3 points.

Dirty Casting boosts your next spell when you are out of combat with your grimoire hidden. Think of it as an opener. It rewards preparing your first cast, rather than improving every spell in an extended fight. However, I still need to test in practice what "boosts your next spell" actually means for every spell in the game. So the trait's value depends heavily on that.

Glass Cannon

Requirements: Intelligence 30, Magic Power 30, and 3 points.

Glass Cannon grants magic armor penetration based on how much your Intelligence exceeds your Vitality. This creates an actual stat trade-off. Intelligence increases maximum Mana, while Vitality increases health and toughness. Pushing Intelligence further ahead in Colver RPG may improve the passive’s benefit, but you give up the defensive value those Vitality points could provide.

I would treat Glass Cannon as a specialist caster option. The clear risk here is the stat allocation. However, the biggest issue for me is that the trait's description is a bit vague. Until we know the exact correlation between "armor penetration" and "how much your Intelligence exceeds your Vitality", I'll be cautious.

Best Progression and Utility Traits

Combat upgrades are not the only worthwhile purchases. These traits can earn their points back through the activities you actually spend time doing.

  • Pick-Me-Up: Requires Level 15 and 2 points. You lose 40% fewer items on death. Worth considering when you regularly carry items you cannot afford to lose, though rounding and protected-item rules remain unclear.
  • Lucky Miner: Requires Level 25 and 3 points. Grants a 30% chance to yield double ore when mining. A focused pick for frequent miners.
  • Bargain Master: Costs 2 points. Grants 15% higher selling rates at merchants. This improves selling, not purchase prices.
  • Tailwind: Requires the Daeron the Darling quest and 1 point. Increases broom flying speed by 15%.
  • Pacifist: Requires Vitality 15, 3 skill points, and 200 Marks. Doubles out-of-combat health regeneration. Despite the name, its description does not impose a damage penalty.

For potion users, Potion Savant makes potions 20% more effective, while Mad Alchemist lets you drink them 25% faster. The former requires Intelligence 20 and 2 points; the latter requires Intelligence 25, Agility 10, and 2 points.

Those two make sense together if potions are a regular part of your fights. If your inventory is permanently empty, spend elsewhere first.

How Stats Affect Your Trait Build

Clover RPG’s stats influence both your character’s performance and which traits become available:

  • Strength: Improves Misdirect damage and physical-attack scaling.
  • Agility: Improves movement and combat finesse.
  • Vitality: Increases toughness and maximum health.
  • Intelligence: Increases maximum Mana.
  • Endurance: Increases maximum Resolve.
  • Magic Power: Increases magical damage.

Intelligence and Magic Power are not interchangeable. More Mana gives you a larger resource pool; Magic Power improves magical damage. A caster can care about both, but they solve different problems. And that's my northern star for this best Clover RPG traits tier list.

The same logic applies to trait requirements. If you are already building Agility, Graceful Escape is an easier investment to justify. If you rarely use physical attacks, pushing Strength solely for a Misdirect bonus may cost more than it gives back. A good approach is to choose your main combat style first, identify the traits that support it, then plan the required stat thresholds. Avoid spreading points everywhere just to collect passives.

Can You Reset Your Stats in Clover RPG?

To reset your stats, speak to the Lady of the Lake and choose Gift of Renewal. Keep in mind that this requires Insights and/or Marks. Check the cost before confirming. More importantly, a stat reset doesn't guarantee that trait points are refunded or that unlocked traits stay active below their requirements.

Which Traits Should You Get First?

For a character progressing through PvE, I would start by looking at Weapons Expert if weapon proficiency matters to the build, then Mob Slayer once its kill requirement is met. From there, follow your existing stat investment:

  • Casters: Arcane Rebound for Mana recovery.
  • Agility builds: Graceful Escape for a better dodge window.
  • Misdirect builds: Liver Shot, followed by movement or chase options.
  • Defensive builds: Rapid Recovery into Iron Rebound and, eventually, Unyielding Bastion.
  • Frequent miners or traders: Lucky Miner or Bargain Master when those activities justify the cost.

The best trait setup is one you actually use. A passive that supports your regular attacks and solves a recurring problem will do more for your build than an impressive description attached to a condition you almost never meet.

And with that said, that's all you need to know about the best traits in Clover RPG. As I keep playing and testing new builds, I will continue refining this Clover RPG Trait Tier List to help you decide which traits are the best for every avilable build and situation. Thus, make sure to come back regulary.
