How to Fix Failed to Start a Call Error on Roblox

Now that Roblox Connect has officially debuted on the platform, players aged 13 and above can call users on their friends list using a virtual, in-app communication system. This system, because it's a bit more intensive than previous Roblox communication methods, will inevitably run into issues, including the frustrating "Failed to Start Call" error.

How to Fix Failed to Start a Call Error in Roblox

Like most Roblox errors, when the "Failed to Start Call" error appears, it could unfortunately be happening for a variety of reasons. Most of the time, this error occurs when the Roblox Connect process itself fails; it doesn't have anything to do with you. Attempting to call again, leaving and rejoining the experience, or closing and reopening the entire app, will likely fix the issue.

If the issue persists, you could try disconnecting and reconnecting from the internet, and then deleting and re-downloading Roblox as a whole. If the error still appears, it's likely an issue that's out of your control, and that the Roblox Connect developers will need to fix.

How to Call People in Roblox

To call someone on Roblox, you must have a verified 13+ account and join the Roblox Connect experience. At the time of this article's publication, calls can only be completed inside this experience.

Once inside Roblox Connect, press the green Call a Friend button at the bottom of your screen. Doing so will open your Roblox friends list and showcase every player you can call.

As soon as you select the player you want to call, their device will ring. If they pick up your call, you'll both be transported to an environment inside Roblox Connect where you'll be able to talk to one another using voice and video chat.

Once inside this environment, you and your call partner can visit different locations (three locations total at the moment), listen to music (royalty-free and Roblox-selected music), and move around a designated area.

Unlike what many players were expecting (or hoping for), this feature is not overarching to all of Roblox, meaning you can't have a phone call in the background and play in an experience at the same time. Instead, you're limited to calling inside Roblox Connect—at least, for the time being.
