InnovationTime misses Roblox Egg Hunts, so he made Egg Hunt 2022: Lost in Time

A new egg hunt is here to bring us some spring spirit!

Let's be honest: Roblox egg hunts are sorely missed. With the annual Roblox egg hunts replaced by the less popular dev hunts in 2019 and 2020, and then fully transitioning into Metaverse Champions in 2021, this traditional event hasn't been the same since 2018. While there's no news regarding an official Roblox egg hunt this year, developer InnovationTime and his team, Innovative Games., have taken it upon themselves to create their own unofficial egg hunt experience—Egg Hunt 2022: Lost in Time.

Egg Hunt 2022: Lost in Time, set to debut on Feb. 26, 2022, is expected to mirror as much of the older, more beloved Roblox events as possible. With an egg hunt that takes place inside of one singular experience, various in-game prizes, and even a feature from the 2016 Roblox egg hunt developer, HawaiianSnowman, InnovationTime's team aims to revive the excitement that came with the original Roblox egg hunts from years prior.

"My team and I are going above and beyond to make sure [that] Lost in Time meets the expectations that players would have for an official egg hunt," said Lost in Time Director, InnovationTime. "While I do have my own expectations that I'd like to meet in terms of popularity, overall this egg hunt is for the community, and I just hope [that] everyone has a great time playing."

Originally teased in Nov. 2021, discussions surrounding InnovationTime's Lost in Time event have been floating around Twitter for nearly four months—however, the actual development time of the project has been much longer.

"This project has been in the works since October of 2021," said InnovationTime. "After learning that Roblox had canceled official egg hunts, I decided to reach out to some talented development friends of mine to see if they would be willing to create an egg hunt for the community, considering it's one of the biggest and most well known traditional events."

Towards the end of Nov. 2021, a logo for the experience was tweeted by artist Haces to continue stirring up conversation, followed by a second teaser trailer released on Dec. 18, 2021. Popular YouTubers Premiumsalad, Manublox, and Conor3D have also contributed to the conversation, endorsing the event via the official InnovativeGames Roblox page. Most recently, a tweet was published by InnovationTime on Jan. 17, 2022, with a link to the event's final trailer.

Though this is his first major leap into a wide-scale development project, InnovationTime is no stranger to creating experiences of his own. In 2017 he created Egg Hunt Leaks 2017, a hang-out spot intended for those looking for a laid-back place to discuss the 2017 official Roblox Egg Hunt—The Lost Eggs. Each year forward, InnovationTime orchestrated one of these experiences, allowing players to consistently have a place to chat with friends and theorize about future egg hunts.

With nearly two million experience visits to his name, InnovationTime looks to the players as his motivation for moving towards bigger and better projects, including his Lost in Time egg hunt.

"Seeing all [of] these players enjoy my games as a kid just made me motivated to come back every year and make more—I hope [that] they gain perhaps the same sense of excitement and joy [that] I had when I was young and experiencing these events," said InnovationTime.

For those unfamiliar with Roblox's egg hunt history, this fan-favorite event began in 2008 and continued to run successfully for the next decade—ending in 2018 with The Great Yolktales. Before the adjustment in 2019, Roblox egg hunts existed within one designated experience, challenging players to find and collect various hidden eggs. In 2019 the egg hunt was changed to a dev hunt, which expanded the egg hunt across 50 unique experiences rather than limiting the event to one—an attempt to highlight and bring attention to various smaller experiences and their creators.

This change, however, was not well received by a majority of the community. Many fans neglected to even finish the hunt due to the longevity and increased difficulty of the challenge. In 2021, Roblox skipped out on an egg hunt altogether, replacing it instead with the competitive Metaverse Champions event, which increased the participating experience count from 50 all the way to 180, and replaced the fan-favorite eggs with mystery boxes. Metaverse Champions was decently received by the community, however, it still didn't fill the egg-sized hole that existed in many Robloxians' hearts.

Due to Egg Hunt 2022: Lost in Time being an unofficial event, it's likely that it won't be able to utilize out-of-experience avatar accessories, whereas the previous Roblox egg hunts could. Despite this setback however, InnovationTime and his team are working to create the best egg hunt event possible. This involves acknowledging how important these avatar accessories are to players, and understanding how much having them, or not having them, can affect experience retention. InnovationTime is continuously working to find a solution, or at least a workaround, to this issue.

"We would really love to award a hat or item to those who complete our event, but we are unsure if we are able to do so at this time," said InnovationTime. "As it stands right now, Roblox doesn't allow users to upload free avatar accessories to the catalog, so we are seeking another way to upload a prize for our community."

While the final kinks are worked out on the development side, players are encouraged to favorite, share, and get excited for this revamped event in the meantime. Similar to the way that various forms of media are remastered every few years, InnovationTime and his team aim to stay true to the original Roblox egg hunts by building off of their foundation and incorporating their own ideas through direct inspiration.

As of now, Lost in Time is set to run from Feb. 26, 2022, forward. For more information on InnovationTime and his team's future projects, follow his group, InnovativeGames on Roblox, along with himself and his teammates, DeepAquaticBlue, Silver27Tm, and BuildingEpicNoob on Roblox or Twitter.

"With Roblox growing as fast as it is, there's a lot of new players joining the platform who missed out on playing the older events, like the egg hunts," said InnovationTime. "With Lost in Time I'm just hoping [that] these new players get the chance to experience the joy that I did so many years ago."
