I tend to try and put together a team of the cutest characters with the highest damage possible, but that doesn't always make them the best. This is our tier list of some of the best characters in Touhou Tower Assault, in order from S-Tier, being the best, most useful troops, to C-Tier, being the less helpful troops. This is subjective to our opinion and experience, so you might find some troops to be more or less essential than what we have listed. Still, take a look at our picks below and try them out for yourself!

S-Tier Characters in Touhou Tower Assault

Keine Kamishirasawa

Keine is at the top of the rankings because she is a must for beginning your battles and has some of the best abilities in the game. Keine deals splash damage, making her great for taking out troops with AoE and building money fast at the start of the round. She is also capable of buffing human units around her, making them deal more damage and have greater range. So not only will she help take down enemies for cheap, but she will also help her fellow units excel as well.

Marisa Kirisame

Marisa is hands down one of the very best units you can get. Not only does she have some of the best damage stats, but she is capable of hitting air and ground enemies. On top of that, she is also pretty cheap to place down, allowing you to use less money and upgrade her a lot faster. Marisa is a must for completing the story, and ultimately you're going to want her in your squad.

Reisen Udongein Inaba

Reisen is in our top-tier rankings, not necessarily because she has the highest damage but because she is one the best characters when it comes to setting up your enemies to fail. By this, I mean she can stun, weaken, or bleed enemies, making them more susceptible to attacks and be defeated much faster. This can be a pretty OP ability, especially if Reisen is paired with another unit that is fast or has AoE.

Tewi Inaba

Despite being the only Rare unit in the S-tier, Tewi is not one to underestimate. She is capable of not only attacking enemies with a decent amount of damage, but she can also generate money based on the amount of other human units around her. This means you can make money faster as well as deal damage with her.

A-Tier Characters in Touhou Tower Assault

Sakuya Izayoi

Sakuya is at the very top of the A-tier, and that is because she has an extremely useful and powerful ability. She can stop time, which will also simultaneously deal damage to all enemies based on her damage stats. The more you upgrade her, the greater this damage will be, which means it is less or more helpful based on how much you can upgrade her.

Joon Yorigami

Joon is a money-making character; while this can be extremely helpful for placing down more troops and making quick upgrades, it also means she doesn't attack at all. If you pair her with Shion, she will really help her excel. But overall, Joon is pretty useless for anything else but helping you generate money faster.

Youmu Konpaku

Youmu is definitely a go-to character to get, especially if you're working through the story levels. She is a fast-damaging character and costs very little to place down. She works better when paired with supportive characters than can slow enemies, meaning she can usually take them all down before they get by.

Remilia Scarlet

Remilia is another mid-tier character that is helpful in dealing with enemies that heal since she has an infinite ability that will constantly do a bit of damage to them. However, this is usually not enough to finish them off, which is why she pairs well with other damaging or even stunning characters.

Cirno

Cirno is a great mid-character in our rankings because she is mostly great because of her supportive nature. She is capable of slowing enemies down and eventually stunning them the more she is upgraded. This is a crucial ability to have when facing fast or tanky enemies, but it also means you are gonna need some highly damaging characters to help her out.

B-Tier Characters in Touhou Tower Assault

Shion Yorigami

Shion has great attacks and probably a better damage character than most. She makes it to the top of the B-tier because she is a great unit, but she also costs money per attack. If you don't have any money characters with her, she will easily drain your funds and leave you broke for the rest of the round. This effect is what balances her out and puts her right in the middle of our rankings.

Iku Nagae

Iku is a really heavy-hitting damage character. While this is a great stat to have as a character, it can also mean a long cooldown time, making her very slow in her attacks. Fast enemies can easily get past before she has a chance to hit them, which is why she, unfortunately, doesn't make it any higher in our rankings. Plus, her splash damage has a very short range.

Alice Margatroid

Alice has a really good unique ability that summons a mini troop that can walk on the lanes and damages the enemies in a straight line back to their spawn. While this can be very handy, on multiple lane rounds, she spawns the troop on a random lane which could be detrimental to you, especially if you don't have other characters to back her up.

Reimu Hakure

Reimu can be useful when it comes to flying units. She is capable of attacking them for an amount of time and keeping them from sneaking by other characters who cannot attack off the ground. However, this would work better as a support ability and is not really the main focus of damage, which is why she still remains toward the bottom of our rankings.

C-Tier Characters in Touhou Tower Assault

Satori Komeiji

Satori sits at the top of the C-tier because she is capable of adaptability. You can switch up how her attacks act, which is useful for AoE, damaging all opponents in the radius of her. However, in terms of damage, she is really lackluster compared to others in the rankings.

Kaguya Houraisan

Kaguya is capable of stunning enemies in places, slowing them on their path to your towers. This comes in handy, particularly for slowing down tanky bosses, but only as a support path. She'll need some damaging characters around to help her finish the job, which is why she sits lower on the list.

Sanae Kochiya

Much like Yuyuko, Sanae is another character that excels in support roles during a battle and lacks in the damage and AoE department. She can't stand the heat of battle and probably won't be able to keep your towers alive if she were solo. However, she does outweigh Yuyuko just slightly.

Yuyuko Saigyouji

Yuyuko, unfortunately, is more focused on the support aspects of the battle. She lacks the heavy-hitting damage that most of the characters can provide. While she can be helpful for support, she has proven to be one of the least helpful currently, which is why she takes the last spot on our tier list.
