How to use the Sickle in Rune Factory 5

It only has one purpose, but it's an essential one.

The Sickle is a farm tool given to you in one of the early requests. It’s also sold by the blacksmiths and can be crafted using a Forge. However, the description you’re given is very vague: apparently, you use it to cut plants. Now, why in Rigbarth would you want to do that?

But believe it or not, the Sickle is one of the most essential tools in Rune Factory 5—specifically for farming. If you use it to slice crops that can already be harvested, you receive a seed that is one or more levels above the crop that you planted. For example, if you use a sickle on a level one, ready-to-harvest Turnip, it drops a level two Turnip seed. You then replant that seed, sickle it, and replant it again.

Higher levels crops have a ton of benefits:

  1. They can be shipped for a very high price. In fact, farming with the Sickle method is one of the fastest ways to generate money in Rune Factory 5.
  2. If you use them as ingredients, the food that you produce comes out equally high-leveled. These foods are shipped for an even higher price. Friendship and romance points will also go up significantly if you gift them to the people who like them.
  3. They will let you win the Harvest Festivals held every 28th of the month.

Crops can be as high as level 10. Once you've reached the maximum crop level and continuously ship it, the general store will start selling seeds of the same level.

Seeds obtained using a Sickle can be one or more levels higher if your soil is healthy. Greenifiers can help increase the quality of your soil. This will speed up your race to level 10.
