Hidden Journal Locations in Sea of Thieves | Wild Rose Tall Tale

There doesn't seem to be any set system for these Journals, other than the fact that you might accidentally stumble across them! Don't rely on luck; use our guide!

For the Wild Rose Tall Tale, you have the option of pursuing one of the commendations in the Pirate Log. This Commendation is not required to complete the story. Still, it does flesh out your immersion in the story and provides a bit more background behind George and Rose, Sea of Thieves's star-crossed lovers.

Sea of Thieves | Wild Rose Tall Tale | Hidden Journal Locations

Before we begin: If you were actually looking to solve some part of the main questline, you can find the links to those sections below!

We also have a few other important things to note about finding these Journals. The first and most important thing to mention is that you can only obtain while the Wild Rose Tall Tale is active. If you find them while it's not active, it will not count towards the Commendation awarded for finding them. Secondly, you do not need to find these in order. Although the only way to find them without a guide is by using clues from the previous book, you can plan a faster route to collect them if you use this guide instead.

There is a straightforward way to understand this guide. Below, you'll find that we've provided the five islands on which you'll find these journals. You'll also find images that lead you to their general location and the landmarks you'll find them near. The list directly below is the entire list of islands where they're located.

  • Cannon Cove
  • Lagoon of Whispers
  • Lone Cove
  • Rapier Cay
  • Sailor's Bounty

Now that you have the entire list, you can plan an itinerary and route to visit the islands in the most efficient way. Since you're sailing to several different islands on your quest to complete the Tall Tale, now is a perfect time to pick up Voyages to complete on the side! More often than not, the voyages will land you on one of the islands you need to visit to continue the Tall Tale. The guide below lists the Journals in order of how they appear in the story.

Alternatively, you could also check out our Fish Guide to see the cooking times, locations, and bait to catch all fish. Wild Rose spans across multiple map sections, so you're bound to land something good!

Journal #1: He'll Get Himself Killed! - Cannon Cove

The Location of the Journal on Cannon Cove.

In sequential order, the first Journal you're meant to find is on Cannon Cove. You'll be headed toward the beach connected to the bay on the West side of the island. You'll find a campsite located on the inside corner of the beach, near the large pointed ledge in the middle of the island. You'll find this Journal underneath a derelict barrel at this campsite. When you read it, you'll find it leads you to our next location: Lone Cove!

Journal #2: I Think I Love Her - Lone Cove

The location of the Journal on Lone Cove.

This Journal is close to the large rock in the center of the island. If you look along the East side of this rock, you'll find some wooden posts that are meant to lay out a path for travelers to walk. On the inner side of this fence lies the Journal. This one can be a bit tricky to spot, as it is right next to two things taller than it. Use the images above for guidance on where exactly to look. Upon reading it, you'll know the next Journal's location: Lagoon of Whispers.

Journal #3: A Kiss and a Miss - Lagoon of Whispers

The location of the Journal on Lagoon of Whispers.

Lagoon of Whispers is where George and Rose shared their first kiss. Luckily, it is a small island, so the Journal isn't difficult to find. On the West side of the island, just steps away from the cluster of large rocks, are salvage and a lantern hanging not far off the ground. The Journal is stationed on top of one of the barrels here. When you read this journal, you'll be directed to the fourth Journal's location: Sailor's Bounty.

Journal #4: He Proposed! - Sailor's Bounty

The location of the journal on Sailor's Bounty.

Sailor's Bounty is known as the trap island because of all the traps. The plus side? You'd have to go out of your way to run into them. Approach this island from the Southeast, and park in the cluster of islands to the North of the mainland. The Journal is located on the second islet out, underneath several barrels and other broken pieces of a ship. Once you read this book, you'll know the location of the final Journal: Rapier Cay!

Journal #5: I Want to Fight! - Rapier Cay

Location of the Journal on Rapier Cay.

If you're like us, this will actually be the first journal you find! We ended up stumbling across it on our search for the Chest of Memories. Rapier Cay is a small island, so you won't need to walk far for this Journal. On the beach North, of the foliage in the center, are several barrels and trees. The last Journal is right in front of these barrels.

What's Next

When you have found all the Journals, you'll unlock True Treasure Commendation! This is one of the seven Commendations you must achieve to truly complete the Wild Rose Tall Tale and obtain the Legendary Commendation. There are several Commendations awarded along the way as  you complete the main part of this Tall Tale for the first time. Besides those (and the one you just achieved), there is only one other Commendation you need to achieve, and it requires you to complete Wild Rose five times. Our guide covers all possibilities for what islands may hold the Tall Tale's items, so feel free to go back to the start and use it again!
