How to free Otis in Sea of Thieves

Free Otis, even if it's not the right thing to do.

With the Monkey Island update in Sea of Thieves, many familiar faces have joined the crew. This includes the legendary Guybrush Threepwood, infamous Captain LeChuck, and more. One face I recognized was Otis, who, surprise, surprise, is in the Mêlée Island jail. In an act of pity, I decided to free the man, but this wasn't as easy as expected.

Otis and his companion, Captain Coco, are the only residents of the Mêlée Island jail. Granted, Captain Coco is a coconut Otis carved a face on, but being behind bars seems cruel. You'll need to put some work in to free Otis, but you'll want to do it if you plan to complete all The Journey to Mêlée Island commendations.

First things first, you need to get the Chef's Uniform. This requires you to round up 45 Pieces o' Eight. Once you do, you can become the Chef's assistant. This is crucial because you need to cook the stew for the Scum Bar.

After you put the Chef's Uniform on and cook the stew, the meat will stick out of the pot. Grab the meat and head into town, but not to the jail. Instead, duck into the alley behind the church and find the skeleton guard on break. You'll notice a pack of Piranha Poodles and an empty food bowl. Place the meat in the bowl.

Wait for the pups to attack the skeleton, and then grab the Gunpowder Gummies from the bench. You'll need to stop by the General Store and pick up some Gunpowder Fuses, so much sure you've gathered enough Pieces o' Eight. With both items in hand, head to the jail.

How to complete the Prison Break commendation in Sea of Thieves

Place a Gunpowder Gummy in the lock of Otis' cell. Attach the fuse to it as well, and take a few steps back. Pull out your lantern and light the fuse. This will cause the lock to explode and free Otis. In a treacherous move, Otis leaves behind Captain Coco. However, this is actually good for you as this will let you get the Guided Tour commendation.
