Are there Personas in Shin Megami Tensei V?

If you wonder if there are Personas in the Shin Megami Tensei V universe, the answer is no.

There are no Personas in Shin Megami Tensei V, as the game is not in the Persona 5 universe. Both games are separate but share a place in the wider multiverse, and so this means Personas don't exist in Shin Megami Tensei V.

But if there are no Personas, what is there in Shin Megami Tensei V? Well, the answer is demons. Since the first game, demons have always been the main enemies and recruitable and summonable allies in the Megami Tensei games. It wasn't until Persona where things started to shift.

It started with the first two games, where Personas existed alongside demons in the games. But as more games were released, it eventually got to the point where Personas replaced demons as the summonable allies in the series, and shadows became the main foe.

Demons vs. Personas: How are they different in Shin Megami V and Persona 5?

In short, there's not much of a difference between both creature types. Both share a lot of the same mechanics, such as negotiations and even merging. This is once again because personas were originally demons in the series but eventually overtook demons as the recruitable allies, and shadows became the main foe in the Persona series.
