How to use Special Skills in Shin Megami Tensei V

Special Skills.

Shin Megami Tensei V is the latest RPG from Atlus. The Shin Megami Tensei franchise allows players to enjoy turn-based combat with unique mechanics that spice up the gameplay loop. One of the unique mechanics that give players an edge in battle is Special Skills. However, these attacks have a series of requirements before players can enact them, so what do players need to know about Special Skills?

To use Special Skills in Shin Megami Tensei V, players much maximize their Magatsuhi meter in combat. Players can check their Magatsuhi gauge on the top right-hand side of the screen below the turn meter.

Once the Magatsuhi gauge maxes out, players can select their Special ability when it’s their turn in battle. Special Skills have the word Magatsuhi written next to them on the menu.

The game’s first Special Skill, Omagatoki: Critical, guarantees all party members hit critical strikes. Because critical strikes grant an additional attack once per enemy hit, this Special Skill holds power to sway a battle in the player’s favor. We recommend trying out Special Skills as they appear and see which one works best with your play style.

Shin Megami Tensei V is available now for Nintendo Switch.
