How to Play Skyrim on Oculus Quest

Submersive Oculus Skyrim!

After existing for over a decade, Skyrim is still one of the most beloved games within the Elder Scrolls series, and one of the few open-world games ever adapted for VR. With that in mind, most players can play Skyrim on their own Oculus Quest at home. Players just need to meet a couple of requirements to do so.

Base Requirements to play Skyrim VR

For playing Skyrim VR through the Oculus Quest, players will need to make sure that their PC meets the base requirements to run the game with ease. Owning a rig more powerful than the base requirements is recommended, however, it should still work if players hit the minimum. Just remember that meeting these may cause some issues in how smoothly the game runs.

  • Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500x
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB or AMD RX Vega 56 8GB

Once the player meets the specifications, they can buy Skyrim VR on Steam. Make sure to buy the VR version and not the many other variations of Skyrim. Otherwise, players won't be able to play it on the Oculus Quest.

Running Skyrim VR on the Oculus Quest

After purchasing the game, players can run Skyrim VR one of two ways; wired or wireless. To run the game wired, simply plug the Oculus Quest directly into the computer via USB-C cable with the Oculus Link feature. On the other hand, players can run the game wirelessly smoothly if they have a 5Ghz Wifi connection. However, the faster and more powerful the internet connection a player has, the better their games will run while cast.

Connect both devices to the Wifi then use either the built-in Air Link feature or purchase the Virtual Desktop from the Oculus Store to cast the game to the Oculus Quest. The default version of the Virtual Desktop will still need players to sideload a patched version of the SideQuest app in order to properly play wirelessly. Alternatively, players can get the SideQuest app first and download the Virtual Desktop by searching for it in the Games and Apps section of SideQuest.
