How to build a shelter in Sons of the Forest

Beds work too!

Building a shelter is very important in Sons of the Forest as players can't save their game without one. It also offers the chance to sleep, which will alleviate negative effects from players that don't stay well rested. There are a few shelters that can be made and are all covered in the Guide Book. This can be opened up at any time, but isn't necessary for the most basic of shelters available. This is how to build a shelter in Sons of the Forest.

How to build a shelter and save in Sons of the Forest

There are a few ways of making a structure that will let players sleep in Sons of the Forest. Within the game's Guide Book, either found in the Inventory or by pressing B, the instructions for how to build a tent can be found. This alone is enough to sleep and save the game and only requires a tarp and a single stick. At the beginning of the game, a tarp can be found by going through all the cases at the beach, but even just telling Kelvin to make shelter will do the trick. The tarp must be equipped from the Inventory screen and then laid out so that players can equip their sticks and place them in the corners to make the tent.

To make a stronger, more rigid shelter, players can open up their Guide Book and Switch View to go to the blueprints page for more advanced structures. The building system of the game allows players to then select their new structure, such as the Hunting Shelter, and mark the area they want it to be in. After collecting the materials, they can then bring them to the blueprint to interact with it until it is finished, allowing them to save and sleep.
