Should you Destroy Governor Hurst’s Ship in Starfield?

Did someone call housekeeping?

Starfield offers plenty of opportunities for an adventure, but sometimes the adventure finds you. As is usually the case with Bethesda games, I found out that certain missions have more going on than meets the eye. During my visit to Mars, I met a true-to-life politician called Governor Glen Hurst, who offered me a cleanup mission. The task is simple enough: blow up the ship to cover up the crime evidence. There are multiple ways of going about this task, and in this guide, we will cover all options available to you.

Should you blow up the ship or use evidence to blackmail Governor Glen Hurst in Starfield?

Once you reach Governor Glen Hurst's ship in Umbriel, you will be hailed by the clean-up crew of Crimson Fleet pirates, already dispatched to eliminate the ship's original crew as a part of a cover-up. As much as I like being the clean-up of clean-uppers, I immediately became suspicious, fearing that I would meet the same fate. Let's see what happens in both of these scenarios.

Choose to blow up Governor Glen Hurst's ship in Starfield

If you choose to proceed with the mission and blow up Governor Glen Hurst's ship in Starfield, it will effectively end the mission with the least fuss. If you immediately open fire on the ship, the Crimson Fleet pirate crew will attempt to fight back, so you'll have a fight on your hands. You can make the job easier if you target their engines so they won't be able to maneuver around you. Destroying the ship completes the mission without any extra rewards, and the governor will hand over the package necessary for your quest.

Choose to gather the evidence and blackmail Governor Glen Hurst in Starfield

If you're like me and want to reenact your favorite spy or action movie, you can instead choose to board Governor Glen Hurst's ship in Starfield to gather evidence and blackmail him. There are two ways you can go about this:

  • Go in guns blazing: Board the ship and kill everything with a pulse. I took this route since negotiations aren't the forte of my character with the soldier background and alien-fused DNA.
  •  Persuade the pirates to let you in: This is a violence-free option. When the ship hails you, immediately threaten them, and they will call you aboard to negotiate. You can freely roam the ship, gather evidence, and loot in peace. You will find a dead woman's body on the lower deck and additional evidence.

Return the evidence or use it to blackmail Governor Glen Hurst in Starfield

When you return from the mission with incriminating evidence in hand, you will have two options:

  • Incriminate Governor Glen Hurst: If you're going for the just route, you can incriminate the Governor by taking the evidence to CDR Woodward, located near the Cydonia's main entrance. Doing so nets you a 5,000-credit reward. It's still better than simply blowing up the ship.
  • Blackmail Governor Glen Hurst: If you want to defeat the Governor using his own underhanded tactics, you can also blackmail him and threaten to incriminate him using the evidence recovered from the ship. Doing so nets you 12,000 credits as a reward, which is a far more lucrative option.
