The news came from the official TERA Online Twitter account on April 20, 2022. TERA Online was initially released in 2011 in Korea and came to North America and Europe in 2012.

Despite being an MMORPG, TERA Online was marketed as an action-oriented game thanks to its unique combat style. It generally received favorable reviews from critics and fans alike. There was rich lore, gorgeous graphics, and compelling gameplay making up the foundation of the title.

Unfortunately, the brutal endgame grind, questionable marketing of the Elin race, and pay-to-win features began turning more and more players off. Towards the end of its lifespan, content droughts became more frequent, leaving many to drop the game out of a lack of content. All of this likely led to the decision to shut down.

Now the question as to where players will migrate to has the MMO community buzzing. Many are suggesting Final Fantasy XIV and it would be a logical choice. While nothing out right now captures the spirit of TERA Online, the decade players had with it will live on in their hearts and minds.
