Best Steel Swords in Witcher 3 and where to find them

They are sword of nice!

Swords are the weapon of choice for Geralt in Witcher 3. There are many swords at Geralt's disposal, and he always carries two kinds. First is the Steel Sword, a bread-and-butter tool for dispatching common human threats. The second is a special Silver Sword that he uses for slaying monsters sensitive to silver. Here we will cover the less exotic but still crucial Steel Swords as a part of Geralt's daily carry.

What are the best Steel Swords in Witcher 3 and how to obtain them?

5. Belhaven blade

Belhaven blade is a great all-around Steel Sword with some great stats, which are the following:

  • +30 percent Aard Sign intensity
  • +100 percent Critical hit damage bonus
  • +15 percent Critical hit chance
  • +15 percent Chance of poison

We haven't put the Hen Gaidth/Tesham Mutna sword on this list because the Belhaven blade outperforms it if you can get the Critical Chance to 100 percent. You can obtain the diagram for this Sword by doing the Waiting for Goe and Doh treasure quest at the bottom of Sansretour River.

4. Hjalmar's Steel Sword

The Hjalmar's Steel Sword has an interesting characteristic. Its main stat is a Critical hit damage bonus that gets randomly generated every time you get the Sword. It can range from +45 to +200 percent at maximum. You can also cheat the system by saving just before the point where you get the Sword and reloading until you reach the +200 percent Crit bonus. You can obtain this Sword during the King's Gambit quest by winning a fistfight against Vildkaarl.

3. Iris

Iris may not be the best sword Geralt can find in Witcher 3, but it has character and a unique effect that no other weapon in the game has. This ability lets you charge the sword to unleash a powerful single attack at a small cost to your health. You can charge the ability by landing several light attacks. To get Iris, you have to complete Hearts of Stone. At the end of the quest, choose to save Olgierd’s soul, and as a sign of gratitude, he will give the Iris to you as a present.

2. Vitis

We consider Vitis the most powerful Steel Sword in the game for magic users. Its main advantage is that it gives you a +20 percent Sign Intensity that's applied to all your Signs. You can obtain this beautiful rapier Sword near the Longlocks' tower in the Land of a Thousand Fables if you search for Syanna. Look for the small lake with the Wisp hovering above it. It will lead you to the corpse of a fallen knight when you approach it. You will find Vitis in the loot, with other useful items.

1. Toussaint Knight's Steel Sword

Many players consider this Sword to be the most powerful in the entire game. It has incredible stats, which are the following:

  • +300 Armor-piercing
  • +30 percent Quen sign intensity
  • +100 percent Critical hit damage bonus
  • +20 percent Critical hit chance
  • +15 percent Chance to cause burning

Unlocking the Toussaint Knight's Steel Sword is easy. You can find its diagram on the upper floor of the central ruined tower of the Arthach Palace Ruins.
