Onions are a new and recent addition with the Hearth and Home update in Valheim and can be used to a new variant of soup in the game. To get Onions, you will first need to search for their seeds. However, unlike other plants in the game, it's not exactly clear where you can find them.
You won't find them growing in places like the Black forest or meadows. Instead, you will need to head to the coldest biome in the game, the mountain biome.
Inside the mountain biome, you can find onion seeds in small amounts inside chests in abandoned and broken-down huts. Search for these huts, and you will be able to get the seeds and plant them later.
But be careful as quite often near these same abandoned huts will also be stone golems, and if you are not prepared, you might get squished. To deal with the golems if you encounter them, we recommend a shield and an iron mace to block and smash them to bits quickly.
That said, once you deal will the golem, loot the chest, and you will get onion seeds. When you get the onion seeds, take them back and use a cultivator to plant them by making tilled soil and then planting the seeds.
After a while, your onions will grow and should get more seeds when you go to harvest them. These onions can then be made into onion soup and wolf skewer. Check the table below for how to make all onion recipes in Valheim.
All Valheim Onion Cooking Recipes | How to make them |
