Brute Build Guide – Wartales

Let's get brutal.

While I’ve added all the different classes to my warbands in Wartales, the Brute is my favorite of the three frontline melee classes. So if you’ve decided you want to come out swinging, read on for my best build for the Brute in Wartales.

Wartales is a turn-based tactical RPG in which you put together a party of warriors, levelling them up individually and choosing specializations for each as you progress. Each specialization tier offers several options, allowing you to create a team of individuals that suit your play style.

I find the best use for Brutes in Wartales is as game wreckers and I build them as such. If you’re looking for party members to act as tanks, or engage enemies one on one, both Swordsmen and Warriors are better for the tasks. Brutes are best deployed with massive two-handed weapons, tackling swathes of enemies and pushing out high DPS numbers.

Look for gear that primarily increases Strength (for damage), Armor, and Guard (as you won’t have a shield). A little bonus Movement never hurts, but I’d lean towards more Constitution (health) as it will help keep you upright. As for a weapon, any two-hander will do. The legendary weapon Dagan’s Hammer is particularly well suited to your needs.

LevelSpecializationReasons
2VanguardBecoming a Vanguard gives you the Relentless Charge ability (costs one Valour). This allows you to freely Disengage and then charge, damaging everything in your path. This is right on brand for your wrecker MO, especially as you’ll Slow (halving movement) anything you hit in the process, while you gain Fury (next attack gets plus 50 percent damage). The extra movement can also be crucial to get into the right position in any situation.
3Valorous ChainThis passive skill will gain your party one Valour every time you attack more than one opponent. With any luck, this will be every round.
5OpportunismAnother passive specialization, Opportunism means you’ll have Protection (reduce damage taken by 30 percent) as long as you have at least two enemies within 6m of you. Again, this is right on brand for where you want to be.
8Guard BreakerWith Guard Breaker, you’ll always ignore 50 percent of all enemy’s Guard skills. As you’ll be trying to hit multiple targets, any skill that affects all is a solid choice.
10Defensive RepostThis works brilliantly with Relentless Charge, as it gives you a 50 percent chance to attempt an Attack of Opportunity when you disengage.
12Deafening RoarAs with all Bravery specializations, this is a little situational, but as you can only use it once per battle it usually comes in handy. It will push back all units within four meters of you, with any pushed into an ally facing a potential Attack of Opportunity from them.
