How Primal Storms work in WoW Dragonflight

Elemental Storms... of loot

Primal Storms are a great asset to anyone interested in gaining supplemental gear while working on the other, more main, tracks possible in WoW Dragonflight. They can be a bit confusing to understand due to how Blizzard has presented them, but once that clarity is there, they are simple to complete. Here's how Primal Storms work in World of Warcraft Dragonflight.

Primal Storms in WoW Dragonflight

Primal Storms are an open-world activity that, thematically, tie with the four main elemental forces of the expansion: Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. Each element has its own storm that exists for an extended period on the world map. This is important because you'll need to visit all four types of storms every week to obtain special sigils tied to each of the four elements. Killing enemies present within each element's Primal Storm will eventually reward you with their respective elemental sigil. Collecting an elemental sigil begins a simple quest that has you bring them to Lead Primal Research Rethelshi. Doing this rewards you with a Storm Sigil, which allows you to purchase powerful ilvl 385 gear. Each elemental sigil rewards you with two Storm Sigils, meaning you can only obtain 9 Storm Sigils a week, counting the weekly questline.

However, to buy the ilvl 385 gear, you'll first need to purchase their 359 counterparts from Apprentice Primal Researcher Mythressa using Elemental Overflow. Elemental Overflow is obtained by simply killing enemies with any Primal Storm. They are drops and can be infinitely farmed as Storm Sigils are the timegate. Once you have enough Elemental Overflow, simply head back to Mythressa and purchase the gear of your choice. Then, take that pieces of gear over to Rethelshi, and exchange the ilvl 359 for the ilvl 385.
