How to get a Spark of Ingenuity in WoW Dragonflight

Sparks of Ingenuity are a key ingredient to crafting and obtaining some of the most powerful items in World of Warcraft Dragonflight. The items in question are so powerful that you might think that getting these Sparks are difficult. Fortunately, anyone can obtain them and they are easy to get, with a caveat. Here's how to get a Spark of Ingenuity in World of Warcraft Dragonflight.

Obtaining your first Spark of Ingenuity in Dragonflight

To get your first Spark of Ingenuity for your high-tier crafts, complete the Dragonflight campaign, specifically, the portion involved with unlocking the Engine of Innovation located in the Bronze Enclave within Valdrakken. A Maiden, guarding the Engine of Innovation, will task you with completing a rather simple challenge within the Azure Span. Completing this and returning will see you earn your first Spark of Ingenuity.

Getting your second Spark of Ingenuity

Head to the Engine of Innovation to earn your second Spark of Ingenuity. The Maiden overseeing the machine will have a new campaign quest for you that sends you into the Ohn'ahran Plains for yet another challenge. Like the first, this challenge is extraordinarily simple, and can be completed within a 10 to 15 minute span of time. Completing this challenge and returning to the Maiden will reward you with your second Spark of Ingenuity.

The Caveat with Sparks of Ingenuity

If you earned and used both of your Sparks of Ingenuity, the bad news here is that, currently, there are no other means of getting any more. This is because the first five Sparks of Ingenuity you can get in Dragonflight are time-gated. Every two weeks, the Maiden guarding the Engine of Innovation will present a simple new challenge that will allow you to earn a new Spark, but in the meantime, you'll have to wait to obtain a new one.

After these five are earned, all following Sparks will come from performing literally any activity in WoW Dragonflight at random. Akin to how legendary items worked and dropped in WoW Legion, Sparks of Ingenuity will be extremely rare drops from doing anything in Dragonflight. The expectation is that you'll only obtain a Spark every few weeks following the acquisition of the fifth Spark, so it's important to make good use of the guaranteed five you can obtain.
