When do you unlock Dragonriding in WoW Dragonflight?

We need to ride the big lizard baby!

One of the biggest selling points for World of Warcraft's Dragonflight expansion was players getting their own dragon. These dragons can be customized, upgraded, and serve as the primary travel system for the expansion. It's a novel system and one we're shocked didn't come sooner. So, now for that burning question. When do you unlock dragonriding?

When can you fly in World of Warcraft Dragonflight?

Players will get the ability to ride their dragon fairly early on in the Dragonflight campaign. In Chapter 1, players get the "Dragonriding" quest from Alexstrasza in The Waking Shores. This will have them speak to the first of several dragonriding trainers. The first mount that players receive is the Renewed Proto-Drake. Depending on how quickly players are blowing through quests, you can obtain the mount within a couple of hours.

It appears that Blizzard plans on players being heavily invested in their dragon mounts as there are 48 collectibles to obtain throughout the four zones in the Dragon Isles. These serve as points to be spent on upgrading the dragon's abilities, thus improving its performance. Players will also want to nab as many side quests as possible, as these will be one of the many ways to unlock appearance customization options. There's a lot to be discovered and collected, but we have two years with these mounts, and it's a far better system than the Heart of Azeroth.
