How to Play the XDefiant Open Session

Hop into the action.

The XDefiant Open Session is here, and while it's too early to call it the Call of Duty killer, there are many players out there believing it can be the case. Here's how you can play.

XDefiant Beta Dates and Platforms

The XDefiant Open Session runs from now to June 24, so you have plenty of time to hop in and see what Ubisoft's new shooter has to offer. The beta is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Console players just have to download the client in the Xbox Store or PlayStation Store to get started.

PC players have a different path to take since there are so many different storefronts available. Instead of being on Steam or the Epic Games Store, PC gamers looking to jump in to the action have to do so through Ubisoft Connect, meaning you have another storefront to keep track of (it sounds like this will be the case for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, too).

What is XDefiant?

XDefiant is a free-to-play arena shooter that looks like it's going to be competing with the Halos and Call of Dutys of the world. It has different classes and weapons, so you're able to build your loadout as you see fit. The character you play will determine what abilities you have, so make sure you find something that fits your playstyle. For example, the Echelon faction comes equipped with a Ghillie Suit and Sonar Goggles, making it so you can sneak around and even reveal enemies before they can get a shot at you. Each faction is based off a Ubisoft franchise (the Echelon faction is based on Splinter Cell), so expect many worlds to collide.
