Chicken Racing in the Yakuza series has had its ups and downs, but it is fairly straightforward in Like a Dragon Ishin. It is tied to the Completion List and Diligence Records for Friendship and is required for 100% completion of the game. While the game is still left to chance to an extent, there is some strategy in the minigame that can help you earn those 10,000 tags and max out friendship with the owner. These are some strategies for how to win Chicken Racing in Like a Dragon Ishin.

Strategies for Chicken Racing in Like a Dragon Ishin

Ryoma will have to purchase tags from the owner before betting on the races and then examine every chicken's stats, Condition, and previous placements. The first two can be seen right away and the previous placements can be viewed by selecting Buy Tickets, clicking any of the betting options, and selecting More Info. From there, players can get a better idea of how well the chicken has been performing and in what condition it's in. So long as there are no stuttering or performance issues, the race won't take long at all.

Most of the time, the chicken with the combination of the best placements and the best Condition will be winning the next race. This is because the Condition causes the chicken to get a speed boost or speed debuff depending on whether the arrow is high or low. Orange auras during the race are shown whenever the chicken gains speed while Blue auras display when they are being slowed down.

There are two main strategies when trying to get the 10,000 tags required for the Completion List or to max out the owner's friendship.

• Strategy One
  • Save and bet on the highest payout until winning.
• Strategy Two
  • Bet on the chicken that scored closest to 1st with the highest Condition.

The game is still very RNG dependent and may require making a few saves after a successful run. Betting on multiple chickens is viable for Single Wins, but the biggest amount of money can be won with the Buy Exacta option. This is difficult to determine, but could be worth trying if players are feeling particularly lucky. A maximum of 300 points can be spent on a Ticket. If players have the tags, they can bet on multiple options and then Check Tickets.
