How to make an axe in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK)

Chop that wood!

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, gathering resources and materials plays a huge part in the gameplay. And one of the more common things you’ll need to do is chop wood, but there isn’t always an axe around if you don’t have one in your inventory. Here’s how to make an axe in Tears of the Kingdom.

To make an axe in ToTK, you need two things: a Tree Branch and a Stone, both of which you can find easily as they’re scattered around most areas on the ground in abundance.

Pick up and equip the Tree Branch from your Tears of the Kingdom weapons menu, then use Link’s Fuse power to add the stone to it. To do so, hold R and select Fuse, then hover over the Stone, and you’ll get the option to fuse it with your Tree Branch with the Y Button to create a Stone Axe.

I didn't realize you could make an axe at first so I spent an hour trying to find one on the ground somewhere. So don't be like me—carry one on you at all times, just in case.

With the axe in hand, simply walk up to a tree and, with the axe equipped, swing at it a few times to chop it down, turning it into a Wooden Log. You can then use Link’s Ultrahand ability to attach the log to other objects and create useful resources like bridges, boats, and ladders to access hard-to-reach places such as cliffs and large gaps.
