Hylia may have been spotted in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Final Trailer

While we have no official confirmation, fans point to some similarities in both Zelda and the new character's designs that point to a connection. For example, both the new character and Zelda wear a similar tiara, earrings, and golden tear-like object at the end of a necklace. They both also seem to be able to wield the power of light.

Even more suggestive is the crown that the new character wears. A fan made this Reddit post showing that the new character's headwear bears a strong resemblance to that depicted as being worn by the goddess Hylia in pictographs found in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Again, the new character can only spotted for a brief second, so we don't know how large of a role they might play in the latest addition to the Legend of Zelda series, Tears of the Kingdom, but we have to agree with these crafty fans—her design is quite suggestive.

Who is Hylia in the Legend of Zelda series?

Hylia is a goddess and a recurring character in the Legend of Zelda series. She is most prominently featured in Skyward Sword, in which she was the goddess who faced the Demon King Demise. She was later reborn as a mortal, Zelda, who needs to recover her memories and, with Link's help, face the Demon Lord Ghiraham and eventually the Demon King Demise once more. Her descendants become the royal family of Hyrule, and women in the family are generally named Zelda, in her honor.

In the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Hylia does not physically appear. She is mentioned in passing, and appears in references to physical locations, like Mount Hylia.

Who else could this new character from the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Final Trailer be?

If the new character isn't Hylia, there was another new character spotted during the trailer that also bears some similarities, and they both may be related. At timestamp 1:41, a character with similar skin color and eye markings can be seen. She has a very different hair style and dress, so, while they are likely related, they are definitely not the same character. This second new character also has fans taking guesses at who she might be.
