There is a boatload of things to do in New World, from crafting to harvesting and even hunting. But one thing you might not have realized you could do is collect gems. Mining and cutting gems can be a time-consuming process, but it is well worth the time as they increase stats or add bonuses to your character.
To get gems, you first need to find raw gemstones. This is done via mining any non-elemental ore vein such as iron, silver, gold, platinum, orichalcum, and star metal. You will have a small chance to receive a raw gemstone when mining. Your odds of getting a raw gemstone can be increased by increasing your Miner's Luck. Alternatively, you can purchase raw gemstones.

If you are interested in gems, you will need to prioritize these three skills: Harvesting, Mining, and Stonecutting. At a stonecutting table, you can craft raw gemstones into cut gemstones. Increasing your Stonecutting skill allow you to cut better gemstone quality.
You will need motes to cut gemstones. This is where the Harvesting and Mining skills come into play, as you will need them to find these motes. Making these skills your primary focus will allow you to get and craft whatever gems you need.
