If you’ve been playing New World for awhile, you’ve probably stumbled onto some of the game’s Corrupted Area and Corrupted Breach events. These randomly spawning missions give you an additional quest and several objectives to complete within a time limit.
If you leave the Corrupted Area during the event, you’ll be notified with an “Abandoning Event” popup on the top-right of your user interface. Sometimes, even if you return to the event’s Corrupted Area, this popup can get stuck. Luckily, there are a few fixes!
Without closing New World
The first few fixes for the "Abandoning Event" issue don’t require you to quit the game. First, even if there’s not an event currently happening, return to the point on the map where the Corrupted Area appeared. This should clear the popup.
If this doesn’t work, either wait at the area for the Corrupted Area event to spawn again, or find a new Corrupted Area/Corrupted Breach event nearby. Again, this should clear the popup as normal.

By Closing New World
The other fix is simply to log off and exit New World. This can be a little frustrating, as New World currently has very long login queues, but this solution works almost every time. When you rejoin the game and relog, there’ll be no Abandoning Event popup box.
Ultimately, the best way to avoid this error is to stay within the Corrupted Area until all objectives are complete and avoid entering an event unless you can complete it!
