A Looming Shadow Returns: Giovanni is coming back to Pokémon Go with Shadow Lugia

Niantic has announced that Team GO Rocket boss Giovanni, who has been absent from the game for months, will make his return with a new Shadow Pokémon in tow: Lugia! With Giovanni already being known as one of the most difficult NPCs to beat, we expect Legendary Pokémon Lugia only to make him look more intimidating.

According to the official page for the Pokémon Go event, A Looming Shadow Returns, it is scheduled to start on Nov. 9, 2021, and will herald Giovanni's return with Lugia. However, the head of Team GO Rocket is not the only one changing things up. Players will find that when the event starts, all the team's grunts and leaders will have new Shadow Pokémon that you can rescue upon defeating them.

On top of the changes to their roster, Team GO Rocket will show up at PokéStops far more frequently over the coming weeks. This will be the perfect time for players to explore new PokéStops, gain Battle XP, and collect Pokémon candies of their new lineup!
