Halo Infinite has received almost unanimous praise from gaming outlets for multiplayer and campaign modes. Given the positive reception, users might be surprised to hear that the dialogue between fans and developers has been anything but amicable.
Due to the toxic discourse between fans and developers regarding the multiplayer's progression, cosmetic pricing, and a lack of dedicated playlists for modes like Slayer, the moderators of the Halo subreddit initiated a lockdown on Dec. 4, 2021. The lockdown made it impossible for players to create new posts or comments. The subreddit reopened Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, after both sides had time to cool off after a heated debate.
Because of toxicity "on all sides," including death threats, doxing, and targeted verbal attacks, moderator 343-Guilty-Spark made an official post on the subreddit telling users to return after the weekend. Communication between the Halo community and developers deteriorated after the disgruntled community manager, Ske7ch's statements didn't sit right with the community for many reasons.
Even after the temporary lockdown of the server, players are still livid with 343 Industries, as evidenced by the top post of Dec. 6, 2021.
