There are all sorts of resources available throughout Ark: Survival Evolved that help players survive and advance as a civilization or alone. The DLC Lost Island offers the majority of the same resources as the rest of the game. However, we'll go over what all is available and the best spots to fit it.
Black Pearls
One of the rarest ocean-based resources are Black Pearls. These can be harvested from animals like Trilobytes, Deathworms, Eurypterids, and more. However, they can also be found in black clams at the bottom of the ocean. Mainly they are used to craft Tek tier items, so players won't need this resource right away.
- Off the Coast of the Southwestern Isle - LAT: 80.0 LON: 31.5
- Midland Swamp Grotto - LAT: 59.0 LON: 47.5
- Southeastern Cave - LAT: 55.6 LON: 70.8
Blue Gems
The blue gems are incredibly rare on the Lost Island. These gems can be used to craft glider suits, hazard suits, and some Tek equipment. As these gems are only in the Aberration map outside of this DLC, players may not even know that these are available to them.
- Southeastern Cave - LAT: 55.6 LON: 70.8
Cactus Sap
Cactus Sap can be collected from cacti out in the desert biome of this map with just the player's fists. It makes a good alternative to drinking water in these areas, but can also be turned into food and other resources like cactus broth, clay, and propellant.
- Mid-Northern Desert - LAT: 78.0 LON: 64.9
Cementing Paste
One of the many important resources includes binding agents like cementing paste. While this can be crafted from other resources, it can also be harvested. Harvesting cementing paste means that players don't have to collect other resources to waste crafting it. One of the easiest ways to find it is by looking in beaver dams in these locations:
- River on the Southeastern Coast - LAT: 57.9 LON: 68.6
- Snowy Waterfall - LAT: 31.3 LON: 34.8

Chitin/Keratin
Chitin can be used for a couple of purposes, such as crafting armor or making cementing paste. While not the most valuable of resources, once players unlock the engrams to use it, it is worth hunting down. The only way to collect chitin is by killing creatures that grow it naturally. These creatures include achatina, araneomorphus, arthropleura, dung beetles, dunkleosteus, eurypterid, jug bugs, Lymantria, mantids, and more. These creatures can be found in places like:
- Hole Waterfall - LAT: 37.1 LON: 32.6
- Volcanic Crater - LAT: 23.3 LON: 59.8
- Mid-Northern Desert Area - LAT: 80.9 LON: 53.9
Crystals
Crystals are one of the more advanced resources, offering players the ability to craft cooling things such as air conditioners and refrigerators. These items are extremely useful for increasing the longevity of the player's food stores and their ability to survive in hotter climates. Some of the best places to find crystals are in these places.
- South Eastern Coast of the Mainland - LAT: 61.9 LON: 61.2
- Peak of the Volcano - LAT: 20.8 LON: 67.5
- Northern Mountaintop - LAT: 20.2 LON: 50.6
Green and Red Gems
Green and red gems are a fairly rare resource within the Lost Island. Green gems can be used to make things like the climbing pick, basilisk saddle, glow stick, and gasoline. Red gems create the charge lantern, gas collector, and Tek railgun. However, players can find a few deposits of this gem across the northern side of the map.
- Off the Northwestern Coast - LAT: 20.75 LON: 17.51
- Off the Western Mainland Shore - LAT: 47.24 LON: 27.4
- On the Northeastern Small Island - LAT: 23.17 LON: 77.04
Metal, Flint, and Rocks
Some of the most common but also most useful resources are those meant to be built into something more. Metal, Flint, and Rocks provide players with the means to create basic weaponry, create poisons, cook food, and more. Some of the best places to find all three of these items on the Lost Island map is in the mid-northern area.
- Metal Mountaintop - LAT: 21.7 LON: 45.7
- Volcanic Crater - LAT: 23.3 LON: 59.8
Finally, at the far southeastern end of the map in the desert area, players can find heaps of metal everywhere. Just remember that to get to this section of the map, players will need to cross a fairly large ocean. So this area is meant more so for late-game players.
Obsidian
Obsidian is a very rare resource on most maps within Ark: Survival Evolved, however, due to its mainland volcano, it is a much easier item to find on Lost Island. There are several deposits of this all around the volcano, but they can also be found in some of the cave systems. It can be used to craft several things including the camera, obsidian tools, cannonballs, chain bolas, geopolymer cement, harpoon launcher, and much more.
- Volcanic Crater - LAT: 24.3 LON: 59.5
- Midland Swamp Grotto - LAT: 59.0 LON: 47.5
Oil
Oil is one of the important materials to look for in the mid to late game as it can be turned into gasoline and used to make industrial engrams. This resource sits mostly at the bottom of the ocean, so players will need the proper tools to reach this resource in the first place.
- Sunken Shipwreck - LAT: 12.0 LON: 43.1
- Far Southwestern Edge - LAT: 66.7 LON: 12.2
- Off the Coast of the Southwestern Isle - LAT: 80.0 LON: 31.5
Organic Polymer
The polymer can be fabricated from other resources, however, if players can find and collect the resource organically, it is not as wasteful. The easiest way to get this resource is from killing oversized bugs like the mantis and using a pet Moschops or a chainsaw to harvest the polymer. Another great option is to tame a wyvern and use its breath to kill off the mantids. Players can find mantids or kairuku in many places, such as:
- Mid-Northern Desert Area - LAT: 80.9 LON: 53.9
- Middle Snowy Patch - LAT: 39.9 LON: 42.8
Rare Flowers and Mushrooms
Rare flowers and mushrooms are some of the more interesting resources available in-game. The rare blue flowers will provoke all untamed creatures if eaten but can be used to make fertilizer, lesser antidote, exceptional kibble, battle tartar, and mindwipe tonic. The rare mushrooms have terrible hallucinogenic effects if eaten, however, they can be used to craft fertilizer, lesser antidote, superior kibble, shadow steak saute, and mindwipe tonic. Both can be found in beaver dams or by taking a therizinosaur to the swamp.
- Southern Swamplands - LAT: 58.5 LON: 49.7
- River on the Southeastern Coast - LAT: 57.9 LON: 68.6
- Snowy Waterfall - LAT: 31.3 LON: 34.8
Salt
Raw salt can be mined from large white cubic crystals or in dinosaur bones along a centerline from north to south in the map. This dietary mineral is mainly used for crafting better foods like cured meat, simple meal, boiled egg, fish stew, gulasch soup, vegetable soup, and more.
- Coastline of the Desert - LAT: 84.64 LON: 51.41
- Northern Shore of the Mainland - LAT: 19.78 LON: 46.24
Silica Pearls
Players in late-game will need silica pearls for more advanced engrams and tech. Silica pearls can only be found underwater. They tend to be at the very bottom of the ocean, so players will need to gear up so they can traverse that far down without drowning.
- Off the Eastern Coast - LAT: 35.0 LON: 87.6
- Off the Northern Shore - LAT: 11.9 LON: 43.1
- Midland Swamp Grotto - LAT: 59.0 LON: 47.5

Silk
Silk is one of the useful resources specific to the desert biome. It can be used to craft things like desert armor, tents, and whips. It can be harvested from animals like the Lymantria with a Saber Tooth or a metal hatchet. Alternatively, it can be collected from white and purple flowers.
- Northwestern Desert - LAT: 78.2 LON: 41.3
Sulfur
While not incredibly useful to newer players, this can become something well sought after. Sulfur is used to create things like the Flame Thrower, Preserving Salts, and Propellant. Other uses for this mineral include taming Rock Elementals and feeding Phoenixes once tamed.
- Volcanic Crater - LAT: 24.3 LON: 59.5
Thatch, Wood, and Fiber
Thatch, Wood, and Fiber are some of the most basic and essential crafting materials early on in-game. Players can find these materials pretty much anywhere on the map. This can be taken from bushes, branches on the ground, trees, and cacti across the map with fists, the hatchet, and pickaxe.
