How to defeat Hassel of the Elite Four in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Hassel uses Dragon Type Pokémon during the Champion Assessment fight and is the final Elite Four member in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. This makes Steel, Fairy, and Ice Pokémon valuable counters for the fight as offensive and defensive options. Hassel's strongest Pokémon is level 61 and it is recommended to level up your own team to the same level or above. How to beat Elite Four Hassel in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Hassel's Elite Four team comprises of five Dragon Type Pokémon. Much like Larry's Elite Four battle, Hassel's team is built around offense and hits hard. Using Steel or Fairy Pokémon is a good way of dealing damage while not taking much damage from Hassel's team. Steel resists Dragon moves while Fairy is immune to them. The team consists of:

  • Level 60 Noivern - Flying/Dragon, weak to Rock, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy with Dragon Pulse, Air Slash, Hyper Voice, and Super Fang.
  • Level 60 Haxorus - Pure Dragon, weak to Ice, Fairy, and Dragon with Dragon Claw, Crunch, Iron Head, and Rock Tomb.
  • Level 60 Flapple - Grass/Dragon, weak to Ice, Dragon, Bug, Poison, Fairy, and Flying with Dragon Rush, Seed Bomb, Aerial Ace, and Leech Seed.
  • Level 60 Dragalge - Poison/Dragon, weak to Psychic, Ground, Ice, and Dragon with Dragon Pulse, Sludge Bomb, Thunderbolt, and Hydro Pump.
  • Level 61 Baxcalibur - Dragon/Ice, weak to Fighting, Steel, Rock, Fairy, and Dragon with Icicle Crash, Glaive Rush, and Brick Break.

Noivern is very frail but it has a high Special Attack and Speed stat, making it able to move first to deal a lot of damage. Priority moves like Ice Shard will deal a lot of damage to it, and in the right circumstances, might be enough to take it out entirely. Its Super Fang will ignore defenses and always halve the target's HP and its Dragon Pulse can deal a lot of damage to anything that doesn't resist Dragon.

Haxorus is one of the bigger threats but has lower Special Defense than Defense. It has all Physical moves, making Kingambit a strong counter to it as it resists all of its moves. Dragalge has poor Defense as well, making most Pokémon with a high Attack stat preferable for taking it out. It has all Special moves, making high Special Defense Pokémon like Bronzong or Espeon good options for taking it out. Both Pokémon can learn Psyshock as well, dealing damage to Dragalge's Defense.

Flapple is the weakest of Hassel's team and is pretty frail. With a four times weakness to Ice, an Ice Shard can be enough to take it out. Kingambit works extremely well as a counter for Flapple, however the same can't be said for Baxcalibur. Tinkaton does well against Baxcalibur as Baxcalibur will always Terastalize on the first turn. Fairy Types are the biggest counter to Baxcalibur and it will only be able to hit them with Icicle Crash for damage.
