Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a single-player anime-style tactical RPG and part of the popular long-running Fire Emblem series. Players follow the game’s story through a series of turn-based tactical battles that the series is known for, collecting loot that will give a variety of random new units to use in battle through its gacha system. There are more than 40 units available, with more arriving regularly via DLC content. Below you’ll find our Fire Emblem Three Houses unit tier list.
Fire Emblem Three Houses best units
We’ve rated the units largely on their usefulness at the end game on maddening difficulty. Note that many of the units rated lower may well serve you well early game but are not considered worth the investment for late-game content.

S-Tier units
With great stats and powerful skill potential, these are the best units in the game.
- Byleth (male): Strong with both magical and physical damage, as well as being a strong defensive unit.
- Byleth (female): Great speed, powerful attacks, and is generally considered to be the best unit in the game.
- Claude: A killer combination of ranged damage and flying ability.
- Dimitri: Can be built into one of the strongest defensive units in the game.
- Edelgard: Makes a powerful Wyvern Lord with an unrivaled combination of map coverage and damage output.
- Lysithea: The game’s best caster in terms of offensive damage output, while having several build options to suit your style that all work.
A-Tier units
These elite units are only a small step down from the best of the best and will still be worth your time and investment.
- Dedue: One of the strongest defensive tanks in the game.
- Felix: Great speed and strength, alongside strong evasion, make for a great tank.
- Ferdinand: A good, simple allrounder that makes a great paladin.
- Leoni: Can become the perfect bow knight, fast and strong at both short and long range.
- Linhardt: A strong healer that can also put out solid damage.
- Petra: High dexterity and speed mean good damage and dodge capabilities.
B-Tier units
All of these units have the potential to be stars of your team if their stats come along well and they suit your style of play.
