How to become a Pirate Legend in Sea of Thieves

A Pirate Legend in Sea of Thieves is someone who has put in the work and grind to access the Athena's Fortune trading company. The basic requirement to reach the Pirate Legend status is to reach level 50 in three trading companies and purchase the commendations associated with them.

How to Get Pirate Legend in Sea of Thieves

This is a great title to have, as it provides access to extra helpful features in the game. You will unlock many of the Legendary Commendations, Legendary and Ghost Cosmetics, the Shanty of Legends, and Athena's Fortune Hideout. While obtaining the Pirate Legend title is mostly about prestige, Athena's Fortune Hideout can be an excellent place to camp out and find new quests!

Listed below are the Trading Companies in the game. Remember, you only need to reach level 50 in three companies, not all of them!

Gaining the Title

When you have leveled up at least three Trading companies to level 50, speak to The Mysterious Stranger at the Outpost Taverns. He will bestow you with the title of Pirate Legend and give you access to all the additional content that comes with it! If you're having trouble finding The Mysterious Stranger, look in the Outpost Taverns for the NPC that looks like the one pictured above.

Leveling Up

The best way to level up in these companies is to register as an Emissary for a Trading Company of your choosing every time you enter a server. We recommend picking three companies, then focusing on leveling them up one at a time. Every time you leave a server, your Emissary Value resets, and you must re-establish your standing with them. What this means is that the fastest way to level up is essentially a snowball effect. The more you do for them in one sitting, the more valuable your actions will be.

The Best Trading Companies to Use

The Trading Companies in the game seem to be centered around many different play styles. However, if you're looking to level up without a lot of risk quickly, your best bet is to use the Trading Companies that are most easily accessible. The Order of Souls, The Gold Hoarders, and The Bilge Rats have representatives on every Outpost and are generally considered the easiest Trading Companies for grinding since you'll find their valuables on every voyage and goal in the game. Even though The Merchant Alliance is also on every Outpost, we recommend leveling up with The Bilge Rats because they will purchase most of the valuables you can find on your travels.

The Bilge Rats

If you find yourself close to reaching level 50 in a Trading Company but don't want to do any more grinding, The Bilge Rats can help you! When you speak to Larinna (at any Outpost tavern), she offers the option to purchase a level for any of the Trading Companies for 30 Doubloons. Doubloons are a currency in the game that is rarer than gold, though, so don't waste them!
