Genshin Impact's Alchemical Ascension event introduces a Potion-making system. While Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Potions are easy to concoct, it takes a bit more effort to craft Expert Potions.
Here's everything you need to know about how to make an Expert Potion in the Genshin Impact Alchemical Ascension event.
How to make Expert Potions in the Genshin Impact Alchemical Ascension event
Expert Potions can't be crafted early into the event. You need to wait until approximately Cycle 22 and above (after Sucrose's Advanced Exam) and level up your ingredients before it becomes possible to reach the Expert tier.
Method #1: Crafting an Expert Potion
You won't be able to craft an Expert Potion from the get-go due to the limitations of ingredient quality. You will have a better chance at crafting high-grade Potions after purchasing all of Freda's supplies and upgrades. Additionally, you need to wait until Cycle 22 before it becomes possible to concoct Expert Potions.
Follow the tips below to craft an Expert Potion:
- The Potion Efficacy needs to max out for a specific attribute (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Wisdom, Charisma, Balanced), which you can track via the upper left of the concoction screen.
- Your ingredient levels need to be relatively high—not necessarily maxed out, but not at level 0.
- Achieve the highest possible Tuning Rate possible by filling out all the blank spaces. Aim for a minimum of 280%. When filling out blank spaces, you can use filler ingredients, such as Mushrooms and Mints.
- Take advantage of Berries, which have a Balanced attribute. They are effective fillers that make it easier to reach the Expert grade.
If you're still struggling despite following all of the above, try waiting until Cycle 25, as you'll be able to concoct an unlimited number of Potions without waiting for Operation Cycles.

Method #2: Enhance from Advanced to Expert
You can start enhancing Potions from Advanced to Expert after Cycle 25. You first need to craft or enhance a +15 Advanced Potion, then enter the enhancement page to enhance the Potion to an Expert Potion. Keep in mind that you can only enhance each Potion once per Cycle, so a lot of luck comes into play for this method to work.

How to complete Sucrose's Expert Exam in Genshin Impact
Sucrose's Expert Exam will commence in Cycle 26. The alchemy board is random, so you won't be able to copy-paste the exact layout above.
First, you need to max out all of the ingredients with the Charisma, Steadying, and Perception qualities:
In addition, I also strongly recommend maxing out the Berry, which has a Balanced attribute and works great as a filler for blank spaces.
To complete the exam, you only need to craft an Expert Charisma Potion. All other requirements won't affect your ability to progress with the story/event, so they are completely optional. But to increase your chances of meeting all of the requirements, I recommend doing the following:
- Use a variety of maxed-out ingredients with the required attributes. I found it much easier to get to the Expert grade after using all three Charisma flowers: Glaze Lily, Marcotte, and Sumer Rose.
- Fill in as many spaces as possible, so your final board preferably has no blank spaces.
- If you use ingredients for Perception/Steadying, be careful and make sure their primary attribute doesn't overpower Charisma, or the Potion grade will decrease.
- Use Berries to balance out any overpowering properties.
