The Assassin's Creed series began my love for stealth games, so Assassin's Creed Mirage returning to the origins of the series has me excited for the title. The game follows Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character who first appeared in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Given Basim's mysterious origins, I was curious where Assassin's Creed Mirage would take place.
Where Does AC Mirage take place?
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is located in Baghdad, set in the year 851 AD, roughly 300 years before the original Assassin's Creed. Baghdad is split into five regions, giving players a large enough map to explore without it being too big. The five regions of AC Mirage are:
- The Round City (City Center)
- Karkh (Industrial District)
- Trade District (Commerce)
- Science District (Education)
- Military District (Military)

Is Assassins Creed Mirage open world?
It's unclear if there are any areas outside of Baghdad the player can visit, but Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Mirage will not be open world and will go back to the series' roots. With a smaller area, players can expect a more detailed world and environment and maintain more focus than the previous open-world titles of the Assassin's Creed series.
Is Assassins Creed Mirage a sequel?
Assassin's Creed Mirage follows the story of Basim Ibn Ishaq, who starts off as a street thief and turns into a master assassin. That said, Assassin's Creed Mirage is more of a prequel, taking place 20 years before the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, allowing players to explore Basim's origins. He takes on the role of a Hidden One, the first order of assassins, as he progresses through his training.
