Borderlands 3 Amara Leveling Build Guide

Our Amara leveling build guide features the top skills to get you to max level quickly in Borderlands 3!

Our Borderlands 3 Amara Leveling Build Guide features a complete step-by-step leveling guide, focusing on survival and close quarters combat while keeping the early progression on this build exciting! Amara is a siren that specializes in tanking hits, dealing elemental damage over time, and spreading chaos. Use Amara's powers to beat down enemies with her brawling skills, control the flow of battle by locking enemies in place or turning them against one another.

Amara has 11 action skills to choose from! You can also apply powerful augments and specific elements to these action skills to create powerful combinations.

Amara Full Build

At the end of this build, your melee attacks should be strong enough to plow through enemies while effortlessly staying alive. Many of the skills provided grant double movement speed, vast amounts of health regeneration, no delay on shield recharge, tons of damage reduction, and a second life! Burst down groups of enemies with Phaseslam while spreading damage everywhere with bullet ricochet and the ability to burn, shock, freeze, corrode, or irradiate multiple enemies at once.

The following is the full build you will end up with, but it isn't how you should level it up initially. We've got a step-by-step guide below that features what skills you should have as you level your character!

Amara Leveling Build Guide

Brawl Tree - Levels 2 - 7

At level 2, you've unlocked 3 action skills to choose from. Phasegrasp is for locking down an enemy, Phasecast sends a straight blast, and Phaseslam creates a shockwave that damages surrounding enemies. Select Phaseslam for the highest damage and AoE. If necessary, change your action skill to Phasegrasp to deal with specific types of enemies such as Varkids or Rakks.

After level 3, go to the Brawl (green) tree and spend 3 points into Personal Space for up to 36% damage when close to an enemy. This skill deals well with melee enemies such as beasts or psychos. Next up, spend 2 points into Clarity for constant health regeneration. Since you'll be mainly in the front lines your shields will deplete quite often, keeping your health up will play a big factor.

Brawl Tree - Levels 8 - 12

On the 2nd tier, spend 3 points into Samsara for gun damage and health regeneration after using Phaseslam. Also, these bonuses increase the more enemies you damage and lasts 20 seconds long. Next, spend 2 points into Helping Hand(s) for high damage reduction for 15 seconds after using Phaseslam. You've also unlocked a new corrosive element, but I advise keeping shock until you reach an area that's populated with armored enemies (such as Promethea).

Brawl Tree - Levels 13 - 17

On the 3rd tier, spend a point into Find Your Center for double melee damage, after using Phaseslam your melee range increases, helping you close the distance. Next, spend 3 points into Mindfulness for up to -575% shield recharge delay and 100% movement speed. Your shields will constantly restore as you close the distance even more easily with this bonus speed. Next spend a point into Helping Hand(s) for further damage resistance. Equip the new action skill Fracture. This has a shorter cooldown than Phaseslam and it damages enemies in a linear path. Also, apply the augment Revelation for the ability to create novas for every enemy you damage with Fracture! This helps a lot with fighting groups of enemies.

Brawl Tree - Levels 18 - 22

Back on the 1st tier, spend 5 points into Root to Rise. This gives you a large 40% health increase, allowing you take more damage. You've unlocked the action skill Downfall but it has too long of a cooldown so keep Fracture equipped.

Brawl Tree - Levels 23 - 28

On the 5th tier, spend a point into Guardian Angel. If you manage to get downed, you immediately receive a second wind with all of your health and shields! On top of that, you release an elemental nova upon getting up, knocking all enemies back. Next, spend a point into Do Unto Others. This gives you the ability to automatically throw an orb at an enemy damaging you. Spend 3 points into Jab Cross for 45% damage increase to your action skill after you melee an enemy. Lastly, acquire Blitz for 100% extra melee damage.

Fist of the Elements Tree - Levels 29 - 44

Go over to the Fist of the Elements (orange) tree. Spend 5 points into Anima for 40% extra elemental damage and double status effect duration. Then go ahead and apply the new element Soulfire to give us Incendiary Damage. On the 2nd tier, spend a point into Illuminated Fist for 75% increased melee damage and converts it into your action skill element. Spend 5 points into Wildfire for a chance to spread elemental status effects to other enemies. On the 1st tier, spend 4 points into Infusion to convert a portion of your weapon's damage into fire, allowing you to ignite enemies regardless of any weapon you use.

Fist of the Elements Tree - Levels 45 - 50

On the 4th tier, spend 3 points into Indiscriminate for your bullets to ricochet off of enemies to other nearby enemies. Spend a point into Deep Well for a 20% magazine size increase to elemental weapons. Next, spend a point into Dread for increased gun damage and automatic reload when killing an enemy that is phasegrasped. Lastly, apply the new action skill Fist Over Matter, this locks an enemy in place while consecutively slamming with giant fists. Attach the augment Allure to pull in all nearby enemies into one spot, lining you up for easy kills.

  1. I was wondering, does the element conversion actually convert or is it just added, so with the incendiary one, would be both shock and incendiary or just incendiary? Because if both the I would use the extra points in tempest for the bonuses towards the elements.

    1. It converts your damage to elemental damage and depends on the Action Skill element you choose, for example: If you use Shockra (shock-damage) your damage gets converted to shock, while Blight Tiger (corrosion-damage) converts it to corrosion and so on.

  2. I feel like I’m missing something with this build, like it’s so difficult to kill enemies with melee, with knock back and just the accuracy of melee, how much am I supposed to shoot people before/between melees and how does this build work against bosses, especially ones like graveward that you can’t approach???

    1. Really well actually, with all the damage reduction and health regen I shrug off gravewards attacks like they’re nothing and just because you’re melee based doesn’t mean you don’t use guns or that guns are any less effective

  3. Any weapon reccomendations?

  4. Can anyone recommend shield/artifact/mod for this build please.

    1. Brawler Ward for shield, artifact I use the invulnerable one with mag size boost and hp regen

  5. Im doing this build. Currently lvl 45. But i noticed that when i look at indiscriminate it shows 0% ricochet chance and next rank will be 0% as well.. Anyone else have this problem?

  6. Playing this build is the most fun I have had playing borderlands in a while. Love it. Currently level 37 and still on the first play through.

    1. Glad you’re having fun!

  7. I also finished this build at level 48…what do I do with the extra points?

    1. You could probably just stick the remaining two into Jab Cross.

      1. That’s what I did. Definitely noticeable.

  8. I finished building the tree at level 48 and i got two skill points left on what should i spend them ?

    1. I noticed that too

  9. Very well done.
Awesome Guide i hope u will Provide further Info like what Gear to go for etc once hit 50

    1. Glad this helped you!

    2. but did i miss somethink for the end build 45-50 u would need to be lvl 57 for all the skill points?

      1. The skills on the sides of the trees don’t require points!
