Activision will continue releasing Call of Duty games on the PlayStation until 2023, but beyond that is unknown

Ever since Microsoft made the industry-breaking decision to purchase Activision Blizzard, there has been a lot of talk of what will happen to the current gaming franchises under the Activision umbrella. Specifically, what the acquisition could mean for Call of Duty. The concern with Call of Duty is that the franchise may end up being an Xbox and PC exclusive, though there are now reports claiming the franchise will continue to be on the PlayStation... at least until 2023.

The report comes from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, who writes that "Activision is committed to releasing at least the next three Call of Duty games on PlayStation even after Xbox acquisition[.]" That will mean the next two mainline Call of Duty titles will probably be released in 2022 and 2023 and will still be released on the PlayStation. The sequel to Warzone will also probably release on the PlayStation, and it will probably come out sometime in 2023.

However, Schreier also reports that it is "hazier" of what will happen afterward. Many changes are expected to come to the Call of Duty franchise, with early talks suggesting the franchise may stop its yearly release schedule. However, can the franchise thrive being an Xbox exclusive and never releasing another title on the PlayStation post-2023? Only time will tell.
